The “Fueling the Future of Footwear” Master Class at PENSOLE Footwear Design Academy has just produced a new winning team. Now, AsicsTiger and Foot Locker are releasing the winning design September 1.
The winning team was comprised of Rama Hassani of Herzogenaurauch, Germany; Matt Franklin of Norwich, NY; and Blake Scordino of Birmingham, AL. Together, these PENSOLE students came up with the ‘Once Upon a Time in Kobe’ Gel-Diablo.
The new PENSOLE x Foot Locker x AsicsTiger sneaker is inspired by Asics’ Japanese heritage and the city of Kobe, Japan. It flaunts unique textured leather at the heel and toewrap that is inspired by Koi fish. Meanwhile, the shoe uses several different shades of blue including a deep indigo that is reminiscent of Japan’s historic indigo tradition. Additional details are inspired by silk kimonos.
The PENSOLE x Foot Locker x AsicsTiger Gel-Diablo ‘Once Upon a Time in Kobe’ is limited to around 1,000 pairs worldwide. It will release at only 15 Foot Locker stores in five countries on September 1 for $120, as well as asics.com and footlocker.com.
