Traction – Awesome traction… can’t say that enough. The pattern looked decent upon first impression but I didn’t expect what I had received. Move as quickly as you can, change directions rapidly and stop on a dime… these will be with you the entire time earning multiple assists. Even outdoors they performed well… Under Armour deserves a round of applause with these guys right here… what and improvement from their previous models.
Cushion – Simply put, these are the most comfortable sneakers I have ever worn. I love Air cushions such as Zoom and Max Air… I even love other foam cushions such as Lunarlon and Cushlon… I love Micro G a little more. Just like most foam cushions, weight and impact is distributed evenly so you receive great cushion even if its ‘just foam’.
Material – Just like most of today’s performance models, these feature a full on synthetic upper… only difference is Under Armour isn’t charging you $100+ for it. In all seriousness, the materials are decent. They haven’t shown much wear and they don’t show creases, something I could care less about but I have to read comment after comment on YouTube about creasing and such so I figured I’d bring it up. I personally like the material and how it looks and feels… it isn’t perfect but its still pretty nice.
Fit – They fit very snug – which I like – but some may want a little more wiggle room so either try them on or go up ½ size. The materials offer a pain-free fit which rests very close to the foot making it feel as if the shoe is just an extension of your foot versus and add-on or accessory. Lace them up all the way to the top to ensure perfect lock-down… and I do mean perfect.
Ventilation – This is an area that was greatly lacking in previous Under Armour models and they are finally taking things in the right direction. The Torch doesn’t offer and abundant amount of ventilation but when directly comparing it to their past models you can clearly see a big improvement. These offer a decent amount of air-flow overall but don’t expect the same level of air-flow you’d receive from SPRINTFRAME or properly design Hyperfuse.
Support – This is the only true downside but some may enjoy what they offer. An external TPU shank plate is in place which adds some rigidity for torsional support but what they could have used is a slightly wider platform & outrigger to help prevent roll overs while adding some stability along with some TPU along the ankle area for some reinforcement. If you are young or well conditioned and prefer that low cut feel with minimal support then this is a perfect option for you. If you enjoy everything these offer but require a bit of additional support then you may want to wear a brace or tape.
Overall – Personally, I love the Under Armour Micro G Torch and I cant wait to see what they offer us in the future. UA has come a long way in a very short period of time while keeping retail prices at a minimum. If you are speedy and agile & need a great alternative to higher priced brands then Under Armour may be just what you are looking for. I wouldnt recommend these to a PF but Guards, Shooting Guards and Small Forwards would benefit from wearing the Micro G Torch.

The micro g cushion looks really soft and plush, you can actually see it compress as you put pressure on it.
Great review love everything on the site. Are these comaparable to a li-ning model or are these better option?
Sounds like the juke from last year which I love
yo nightwing i can’t wait to hear how the turning point 001’s will perform!are you gonna review those li ning’s?
Love your new style of video. It’s always great to see the shoes in action.
I tried on the Micro G Threat once, and I must say that Micro G offers the best balance between comfort and responsiveness.
Great review nw.
if ur playing outdoor which one do u prefer micro g or soldier 6?
thanks
why a 9.5 on cushion when you said so many good words. Are melo m8 better as far as cushion.
keep up the good work
Its a foam which is never going to be as long lasting as an Air cushion. It does its job perfectly fine but the Melo M8 cushion will do its job for longer and offer a bit more in what some may call modern cushion. I personally would have given it a 10 but I dont want people to confuse that fact that Air will be longer lasting than foam.
fair enough.
one more thing: the problem with the outrigger might be caused by the softness of the midsole. Maybe the use of af a thicker rubber in that area would solve the problem without the need of a wider base.
The on foot review can give us many more information as we can see the shoe react to your movemenet. Exellent job, greece sends you the best wishes
Sigh….another disappointing let down in the UA department in ONE AREA I can’t pass up….support…
I have the Micro G Black Ice (got 2 pair for 30 bucks each) and the Micro G foam is my fav cushioning by far over anything else….and this was their 1st implementation of it (afaik). I love wearing these casually, but for performance I simply can’t because of the lack of support in UA shoes.
As Nightwing2303 stated, the ONLY THING I need from their shoes is a wider base/outrigger. If the Black Ice had a wider outrigger it would be the only shoe I wear, and I would upgrade to these Micro G Clutch’s for the improved Micro G foam. Because of the lack of an outrigger on ANY UA shoes, I have to always pass on them and it makes me so mad because I want only UA shoes because they’re simply amazing performance shoes….
Hopefully they upgrade this in future models…
the support would be the dealbreaker here. I don’t like wearing tapes. although the cushion would had been fantastic. gotta try the Torch one last time before I get the Soldier 6.
Hey I love your videos and all but can you like go back to the type of review you did before because we (the viewers) get a better look at the shoe inside and out unlike you can do, so if you could please go back to your old video making ways that would be good.
I’ll make my vids the way I want to make them. Thanks though.
^This. LOL! I personally like the new format. I would appreciate any format because I pay more attention to the info delivered really. Thanks Nightwing.
Yo Jordan, Making videos is an art an YOU never tell an artist how to do his craft just sayin
Completely agree. Seek what YOU want if you want something different but you def cant tell the provider (Nightwing) how to provide unless you are paying for the service which we dont have to do.
I have to agree about the Micro G foam being better than Lunarlon……I recently picked up a pair of the Micro G Bloodlines and I love how smooth and responsive Micro G is.
Yes. I had the bloodlines and destroyed them being stupid. I regret that decision alot. They were some of the most comfortable shoes I had ever worn for any purpose.
@ Trezz
I did the same sh*t bro!!! I’m mad too!
Your desciption of this guy reminds me of what I think the UA Micro G blur feel like – Abosulety soft jelly like, running up and down the court is a breeze and actually can be somwhat difficult to describe. The transitional flow was awewsome im sure with the improved Tract patern these are sickly to hoop in. Big Up.
Trezz, Satini – check out Marshalls stores in your area, if there are any, They have Bloodlines for $50 in LOTS of sizes.
Thanks for the heads up.
I recently got a pair of 2012 Nike Hyperdunks and they are amazing, but need a new pair of shoes. I can get the hyperdunks again but was wondering if these were better in your opinion (Nightwing) before I buy them. I play a 1 or 2 guard.
Theyre good. Its hard to say “better” bc they are very different from one another. Its best to just compare their scores in each performance attribute and base you decision on that bc you may hold certain attributes over others.
If you had to pick a pair to play in not considering their looks and brand which would you pick? I am sorta scared to get under armour shoes honestly bc I have been playing in nikes for so long.
felt the same way, been balling with nike’s for as long as i can remember, but then something tells me why not try adidas, and that was the best decision i ever made money wise and performance wise
Hey, thanks for the great review! I had a question, tho.
Would you recommend the UA Micro G Torch or the Li-Ning Turningpoint? I’m trying to decide which to purchase. Thank you!
Curious as to why these didn’t make the top performance list of 2012…?
The overall score. A negative mark in even on category will mess up their overall score – even if the shoe is awesome – so that is why its important to go over the review and try to base your choice off of the scores in the attributes that are most important to you. For example; I hold traction and cushion above all else, then comes fit and materials. So I will look to see if the traction is good/bad and so on then base my choice off of that.
I see, and thanks. Really disappointed these don’t have a stable outrigger base. I don’t even care if the upper was extremely strong or not because my Jordan 2010 doesn’t have a strong upper and can lose fit sometimes. I am still able to wear them with confidence because of the wide base and outrigger of the shoe.
If Under Armour would only do that…
the top performance models list on the right is based on overall scores. NW made a top 5 list vid about a month ago of his personal top 5 based on his personal preferences. im pretty sure these would made it but the review came after the vid was posted.
Do these held well outdoor?
are u going to review another UA basketball shoe, and do u know when the nano g and the spine basketball are realising?thx for the review bro
Hi Nightwing,
Just wondering if I wear KD3 in size 9 (quite snug), what size should I take for UA’s torch? (larger…?)
I live in Australia and AU’s footlocker does not sell UA’s BBALL shoes any more, so I couldn’t try them on before I buy…
thank you
The UA is true to size
tnx for the review and nice review……………
wish they had here in the philippines…
one question??
are the cushion on these better than lunarlon and eva midsole
Great vids Nightwing!
I subscribed a few weeks back, really helps to make a better choice when buying basketball shoes! Thank you for that!
I’m about to buy a new pair.. thinking about buying the UA micro g torch vs. Adizero crazy light 2
wich one would you suggest to a 6.3 SG/SF ?
the shoes will be used a lot! sometimes on a dusty, indoor floor…….
Has anybody had any problems with the back of the shoe covering the back of the heel? I have worn them about 5-6 times and I can feel it when I play that the shoe is rubbing against my back heel and after a while it becomes painful. I can feel with my fingers after taking off the shoe that there there is padding where your your achilles is but below that in the area around your back heel, there’s very little padding, it actually just feels like hard plastic.
How about you do the Under Armour Micro G torch 2 review i hear that one is better but i am not sure about that. I really only trust your reviews and some others. I hope to see that 🙂
