I’ve never waited on line or camped for a pair of shoes in my life and today may have been a bad time to start. In New York City this morning it was 29 degrees. When I arrived at the Token38 pop up at 8:45am I found a line of eager Reebok enthusiasts waiting. It was bitter cold and windy, but what Sneakersnstuff, Packer Shoes, Jason Markk, Stance Socks, and Reebok have put together for All-Star Weekend is something extraordinary and 110% worth the wait.
Mike Packer was walking up and down the line, chatting with the people and reassuring them that there would be pairs for them; if not today, then another day, for they would be staggering the available pairs and not selling out all in one day. Peter was passing out Token38 tokens, foam fingers, and towels with a big smile on his face.
At 9:30, I looked behind me and saw a line that went very far down the block and around the corner. Only four to six people were allowed in the shop at once so by 12:39 I finally got into the pop-up. The setup was phenomenal. The stands the Reebok Token38 kicks were on were made of real Spalding basketballs, a great touch. The guys from Packer Shoes were in there taking care of business. The floor was hardwood and painted like a basketball court with the Token38 logo at half court. The theme was certainly basketball, with hoops above most of the Mitchell & Ness gear.
I had a great time and met some great people. Check out the photos below and let me know if you’re headed to the Token38 pop up at The Refinery Hotel.
It was cold as a mofo this morn, and I wasn’t going to stand out there that early. Good to hear that they are being mindful with what they are selling, not simply trying to sell out the whole store in one day. I will go tomorrow evening.
Sec – we need to meet this weekend. I am headed up Friday morning.
Sounds good, perhaps I’ll show you the REAL NYC, not the touristy one that many are going to experience as visitors.
It was so damn cold couldn’t feel any part of my body. Camping/standing in line is easier for people in LA…do go to the event though it’s a great time and so well put together.
Will there be an online release for those who aren’t stateside?
I spoke to soon, I found the website.
According to Mike Packer there will be no online release whatsoever.
And I need one of those reebok/packer balls.
They’re dope but they’re $60
