The Brandblack Kaze is the latest knit runner from the brand. We caught up with David Raysee, Brandblack’s founder, to learn more about the new silhouette.
“When we started thinking about the Kaze Billy and I had a discussion about how lasts are evolving aesthetically,” began Raysee. “Like all things trends come and go, right now we are headed towards a very sleek expressive last trend in running, with very high toe spring.”
The Brandblack Kaze features a tubular knit one piece sock-fit compression upper with an integrated TPU lacing system. There’s a thermo-plastic heel lock system, and a full grain leather sockliner that controls odor due to leather’s natural anti-bacteria oils.
The Kaze sits atop a proprietary full-length high rebound midsole and high abrasion rubber outsole. There is a TPU midfoot shank for torsional rigidity.
“What really freed us up to go Kaze was the one piece sock-knit upper,” said Raysse. “This revolutionary machine we first used with the Gama, allows the upper to be knit all in one, with no lasting board or seams etc.”
“This means the upper can stretch quite a bit, and what that means is the upper can start to look like the exaggerated sketches we designers have been making for decades,” he continued.
“Super high toe spring, not toe height at all (it will stretch so it doesn’t need any height) a collar that’s super tight, heel rake that’s super excessive, the Kaze looks like a sketch in real life. It’s a concept car that was put into production.”
The Brandblack Kaze is available now for $100 at Nordstrom and should launch at Brandblack.com shortly.
We recently spoke with David Raysse about another new runner, the Brandblack Viento, and he told us even more about the Kaze then. You can check that out here.
