K-Swiss came back in 2015 heavy by bringing back the Gstaad. A year later, the Korean-owned brand collaborated with Ubiq to create two luxurious Gstaad colorways. Now, K-Swiss has brought back the Si-18 International in an OG and created new lux versions of it, similar to the project that was released with Ubiq.
Originally released in 1989 (same year as the Reebok Pump — great year for sneakers), the K-Swiss Si-18 International OG features vintage/classic branding and, due to its tennis roots, flaunts grand slam flags. With its iconic five stripes, leather upper, lace-up closure, and subtle accents, this retro does the original justice. The tongue patch and heel are just too good.
Alongside the Si-18 International OG in White/Black/Fiery Red, K-Swiss is debuting two Lux versions of its classic silhouette. Done up in Dark Denim and Burgundy wine, both colorways heavily echo the past Ubiq Gstaad collabs…The leather on both new pairs looks nice, but the only way to truly tell if it earns its ‘Lux’ title is to see and touch it in-hand. From the pictures, the leather looks synthetic (to this writer). Both the Dark Denim/White and Burgundy Wine/White use white midsoles, leather inner guts, and utilize perforated leather at the tongue, toebox, and heel.
All three of the latest K-Swiss offerings are available now overseas at Hanon, but they’re a bit pricey if you’re buying from the States. Hopefully, these Si-18 Internationals will hit Ubiq and other Stateside boutiques shortly.
