Vans, the first action sports apparel and footwear brand to ever support BMX, is introducing retro-inspired colorways across a classic silhouette as part of the BMX Checkerboard Pack. The collection out this fall uses vintage color combinations and Vans’ iconic checkerboard patterns to update the Sk8-Hi.
Vans designers looked to the brand’s nearly 40-year legacy in action sports and drew inspiration from colorways first worn by its own BMX team riders in the late ‘80s and early ‘90s for this pack. The Vans BMX Checkerboard pack highlights the Sk8-Hi, outfitted in a two-tone color scheme with checkerboard printed sidewalls.
The Vans Sk8-Hi was a pivotal shoe for the performance of BMX riders because it provided ankle coverage and protection when racing and attempting dangerous freestyle tricks on bikes. The version of the shoe pictured here ($60) features canvas and suede uppers with reinforced toecaps to improve long-term durability.
