SOLEcial Studies — an educational partner program of Pensole Footwear Design Academy that teaches youth about sneakers and the footwear industry — has earned a new residency at Philly’s Drexel University.
SOLEcial Studies co-creator and teacher Sean “Paper Chasr” Williams of OSD (Obsessive Sneaker Disorder) has been named a Rankin Scholar at the historic Drexel University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Established in 1981 as the Drezel Institute of Art, Science and Industry, Drexel currently has over 25,000 students enrolled in various fields of study.
As a Rankin Scholar Sean Williams will work in partnership with Drexel’s Design and Merchandising department and incorporate SOLEcial Studies as an added dimension to learning about the fashion and footwear industries.
“With sneaker sales seeing exponential growth globally over the past few years, it only makes great sense to equip Drexel’s students with the tools to consider great careers in the sneaker industry,” said Sean Williams in a statement. “I’m happy they believe in me as a partner to achieve that mission.”
According to OSD, the SOLEcial Studies experience at Drexel University will include interactive events, compelling lessons, and real-life application of the sneaker industry experience with a high level of authenticity.
Since 2011, SOLEcial Studies has been taught at various educational levels to sneaker lovers in eight countries via the online class. Graduates of the program are called “Sole Doctors” and many SOLEcial Studies students have gone on to work in the footwear industry.
