Reebok has long been a proponent of women in sports. From riding the aerobics wave in the 1980’s, the same wave that took them to the top of the sports footwear world for a few years, to signing multiple female models/actresses/musicians before it was popular and staying at the forefront of women’s fashion, the Vector has been pro-woman for decades.
Now, Reebok has lined up a number of their in-house designers to work with women linked to not just the sneaker game but also music, arts, writing, and design. In case you don’t know, here is the lineup:
Jazerai Allen-Lord – Known as a Literary Vixen by day and Mommy Supreme by night, Allen-Lord is one of the most well-known streetwear designers and activists
Ebony Naomi Oshunrinde – Record producer WondaGurl has been quietly dominating the American music scene after breaking out at 16 and working with some of today’s biggest artists
Anhia Zaira Santana – A visual artist and illustrator, Santana is known for her live painting exhibitions and psychedelic interpretations of pop culture
Sanne Poeze – Amsterdam-based owner of sneaker blog Girl on Kicks, Poeze has a passion for graphic design and consulting
All of these women have excelled in their respective fields as well as crossing over into multiple endeavors. For that reason, their grasp on fashion of the past and the present puts them at the forefront of the sneaker world.
When the hottest shoes on the street and shelves are from 30 years ago or more, it only makes sense to bring in fresh eyes and ideas to make the old new again. These women have taken three of the most Classic designs in Reebok’s catalog – the Club C, the Workout, and the Fitness Hi (Reebok’s with the strap) – and given them some personal hits, using high-quality leathers (Reebok uses some of the best leather on their higher-end Classics) and personal touches. But…
This is just Round 1. The ‘It’s A Man’s World’ campaign will also feature five collaborative sneakers that bring each female’s unique story to life, including the timeless Club C, 90s Aztrek runner, retro Freestyle Hi, futuristic Instapump Fury and Daytona DMX silhouettes. Using bright, bold colors and graphics that set the collection apart from the regular models, each design embodies the partners’ individual style and bold personalities.
The ‘It’s A Man’s World’ collection will be available at www.Reebok.com/IAMW and select retailers worldwide on September 1. The first collaborative drop, Jazerai Allen-Lord’s Club C, will also be available September 1 exclusively at Reebok.com, in an inclusive men’s and women’s size range. Stay tuned for more info.
