Baker used to put frozen plastic bags inside men’s skate shoes to make them fit better. The SB Bruin Hi, a skate shoe designed specifically for women’s feet with a women’s specific last, features a shallower forefoot and more tapered heel than a typical men’s skate last in order to reduce movement within the shoe.
After helping to debut the shoe last year, Baker now has her very own SB Bruin Hi. It features an entirely leather upper with a contrasting white Swoosh. An original eyeball graphic, designed by Baker herself, hits the heels, insoles, and icy outsoles as a sign of visibility. A member of the LGBTQ community, Baker implores that it is necessary for people who aren’t normally seen in mainstream media to become visible.
The Women’s Nike SB Bruin Hi x Lacey Baker will be available for $85 on February 24 at Nike.com and at select retailers.
You can watch Baker and friends Sarah Meurle and Josie Millard shred below. Let us know if you’ll be picking up the shoe in the comments.
