Aspiring sneaker designer Von Huynh is George Kiel’s latest guest on Open the Box.
A student at the University of Minnesota, Huynh has been working on some stunning artwork. Oh, and he has the whole Prelude Pack (it’s fascinating seeing them all together).
“I was always drawing and creating cause I wasn’t the most social kid,” Huynh told George Kiel. “So I found myself watching cartoons and anime and I want to draw the characters I saw on TV. I was also really into basketball and from there I was like, ‘Why not draw my favorite players?'”
Using a Microsoft Surface and Photoshop, some of Huynh’s pieces take 10+ hours from start to finish. And while his portraits are unique, you’ll notice how many concept shoes he has posted on his Instagram (@spawnofvon). His favorite designers include Tinker Hatfield, Mark Parker, Hiroshi Fujiwara, Leo Chang, and Eric Avar. Technically-minded, Huynh also went through the entire Kobe Prelude Pack for George Kiel and highlighted his favorite tech spec from each model.
