Etonic Akeem The Dream Comeback
For those that don’t know, or simply weren’t around, Hakeem Olajuwon was signed to the brand Etonic. Together, they produced a great line of signature kicks for one of the greatest players of all time. The brand is back in 2014 and the effort to revamp their classic is being spearheaded by the man himself, Mr. Olajuwon. And they’re kicking off their comeback with the 1984 model the Akeem the Dream, a high top basketball shoe that was set up the same as many of it’s contemporaries of the time; an above ankle height, leather, similar midsole as the Nike Dunk and Jordan 1, lots of tongue padding, and toebox perforations. Although the Nike Dunk and Jordan 1 are better remembered shoes from this period of sneakers, the Etonic and Pony shoes of the early 80s were great looking classics. The Akeem the Dream is certainly much more interesting to look at than a Nike Dunk. Etonic has been around much longer than Nike, Adidas, and Jordan Brand put together. Started in 1876, the brand will soon test whether the market is ready for the comeback of a classic. The Akeem the Dream will release in three colorways come June of this year. Pricing is unknown but quantities will be limited. We’ll keep you up to date on where these will release and at what price point when that information is available.
