Asics has been updating many of its classic models with knit uppers the last two years. The latest to get a contemporary new build is the recently resurrected Gel-Mai Knit.
The Gel-Mai began as a ’90s runner with tons of overlays and an interesting lacing system that uses a plastic thread around the collar to cinch the shoe around the wearer’s heel.
While the same asymmetrical lacing system remains, the Gel-Mai Knit MT ditches the usual mesh for a one-piece sock-like knit upper. Interestingly, the knit sports leather overlays that help the shoe keep its instantly recognizable look.
The Gel-Mai Knit MT uses fuzeGEL cushioning within an EVA midsole for lightweight cushioning.
Fans of the silhouette can choose between a white low-cut Gel-Mai Knit ($150) or the higher sock-like Gel-Mai Knit MT ($160). Both are available now at AsicsTiger.com.
