Parley for the Oceans and adidas are helping clean up plastic waste from the ocean, one sneaker at a time.
Plastic is one of the most non-degradable materials in the world. As a result, millions and millions of tons of plastic are either sent to landfills, recycled, or thermally destroyed. Though more and more steps are being put in place to curb the usage of plastic, some pieces of plastic still fall through the cracks and usually end up in our oceans.
In an attempt to limit the amount of plastic entering the ocean, adidas has teamed up with Parley for the Oceans to implement the A.I.R. program. For the uninitiated, A.I.R. stands for “Avoid, Intercept, Redesign,” the latter of which adidas has taken to heart.
Most recently, adidas teamed up with Parley to create an adidas Ultra Boost 4.0 that uses 11 recycled bottles per each pair of sneakers and created the first-ever Parley weave adidas Z.N.E. Hoodies and Pants made with Parley Ocean Plastic Yarn. Now, adidas is teaming up with Parley again on another silhouette: the NMD R1 STLT.
Interwoven into the black Primeknit upper are blue Parley strands, though those strands are very minimal. There is also a black Boost midsole for maximum comfort on top of a black Continental rubber outsole for a very minimalistic look.
According to leaker US 11, the adidas NMD R1 STLT ‘Parley’ is set to drop on November 7. There is no confirmed price as of yet though you can expect to find thes shoe over at adidas.com and select adidas retailers on release day.
