The adidas BYW was unveiled at the top of 2018 and it was designated for “lifestyle basketball” — a fancy way of saying basketball influenced but not suitable for anything more than shooting around. Now, the Crazy BYW II is about to release — and it comes with some big changes.
Namely, a price drop from $170 to $140. Look around at online retailers and you’ll notice that the first Crazy BYW is sitting on sale. $170 is a steep price, but the variant actually designed for basketball — the Crazy BYW X — retailed for $200 and its heel traction peeled off shortly after Nightwing began testing it.
Another noticeable change coming to the Crazy BYW II is the shape; it is now lower cut, with a much more bulbous look than the original — that’s mainly due to the huge plug placed on the lateral midsole. That aesthetic addition will likely make or break the shoe for fans, but it has also resulted in a slight change to the shape of the three-pod Boost tooling underfoot.
Like the original, the Crazy BYW II features a knit upper with a sheer TPU overlay that should add some durability. However, the new build doesn’t feature a traditional tongue so the lacing system has been altered.
The adidas Crazy BYW II retails for $140 and will release at adidas.com tomorrow, August 1, at 3:00 AM EDT.
