Curry Fox 2 Performance Review: A Familiar Follow-up

In December 2024, Curry Brand unveiled its first signature shoe outside of Stephen Curry’s line: De’Aaron Fox’s Curry Fox 1. Now, just eight months later, the Curry Fox 2 is here. This is a detailed look and performance review on the Curry Fox 2.

The shoes come in a standard box with a fox logo, but it’s the shoes themselves that feel very familiar. If you were a fan of the original Curry Fox 1, you’re going to like these, as they are practically a re-release with some minor material changes. I like the colorway and the way the shoe looks and performs, but is it a significant upgrade from the last model? Not so much.

Traction

The Curry Fox 2 features a full-on Flow outsole. The sculpting is slightly different from the original, making things a bit more exaggerated, which I believe is a good thing. Similar to the Curry Series 7, this model incorporates a cupped design in the forefoot, midfoot, and heel, which provides excellent containment. The performance of the Flow outsole is identical to previous models, offering incredible grip on the court.

Cushion

However, the cushioning is where the shoe falls short. It’s a dead, firm cushion with no bounce or spring. The stack height is also a bit higher than I would like for a firm setup like this, which made me feel slightly disconnected from the court. This could also be because I was coming from the Curry Series 7, which has an incredibly comfortable and responsive cushion.

If you like a firm, low-profile ride like that of the Flotro models, you will enjoy the Curry Fox 2. If you’re expecting a cushioned feel, you won’t find it here. The insole is a basic piece of foam and can be swapped out for something more comfortable.

Materials and Support

The upper uses a mix of textiles and hotmelt fuse materials, similar to the previous model. The textile is actually quite nice—I would have loved to see it on the Curry Series 7 tooling. It’s super comfortable and requires minimal break-in time. The hotmelt fuse is placed in high-wear areas like the toe, eye stay, and midfoot for added durability.

The midfoot strap returns, with a slightly different design but the same function. The designers also added a fuzzy material to the tongue, reminiscent of the Curry 9 “Cookie Monster” colorway, as a nod to Fox’s “Foxy” nickname. I really like the fox emblem on the strap and hope it becomes a consistent design element for the line. The heel counter is very similar to the original, providing excellent support. Overall, the shoe feels more like a Curry Fox 1.5 than a true sequel.

Fit and Sizing

The Curry Fox 2 fits true to size but is slightly narrow. I would highly recommend trying them on in a store if possible, especially if you wear orthotics or braces. For most people with normal or narrow feet, true to size should be fine. Wide-footers should definitely try them on first, as the snug fit might be irritating.

Curry Fox 2 Summary

The Curry Fox 2 is a consistent, but not significantly upgraded, follow-up to the Curry Fox 1. It offers the same incredible traction and support with a familiar, firm cushioning setup. The upper materials are comfortable and require minimal break-in time.

While it’s a solid shoe, the lack of substantial updates, especially in the cushioning, might be disappointing for those expecting a leap forward from the first model. The Curry Fox 2 is best suited for players who prefer a low-to-the-ground, firm, and responsive ride and who enjoyed the original Flotro and Curry Fox 1 models.
