Wade Shadow 6 Show
Way of Wade does a great job of creating top-tier, bang-for-your-buck hoop shoes. The WoW All City line is a great example of this, as is the even more reasonably-priced Shadow line. Way of Wade’s Shadow models can be categorized as budget models when it comes to their price tag, but they tend to be packed with some of the brand’s best tech. This is the case with the Wade Shadow 6.
This model retails for just $119, and it is equipped with a ton of tech. However, implementation is everything when it comes to performance basketball footwear, so let’s dive into the review to see how the Way of Wade Shadow 6 will perform on court.
Wade Shadow 6 Performance Review
Wade Shadow 6 Traction: Durable and Multi-Functional
The Shadow 6 features a decoupled, solid-rubber outsole with a uniquely etched traction pattern that’s not immediately recognizable but works well on court. The rubber is Way of Wade’s TUFF Rubber (TUFF RB), which is designed to handle both indoor and outdoor surfaces seamlessly. Unlike some previous iterations, the TUFF RB here feels genuinely durable, offering solid grip and longevity.
This is one of the aspects of the shoe that makes it such a great bang-for-your-buck option. A modern hoop shoe that can handle outdoor play is not that easy to find. Overall, the Wade Shadow 6’s traction is comfortably above average and super versatile.
Wade Shadow 6 Cushioning: Full-Length BOOM Technology
The full-length BOOM cushioning is one of the standout features of the Shadow 6 and another reason why this is such a solid value pick. Way of Wade does a great job offering affordable performance models equipped with top-of-the-line cushioning. This is the case with the Shadow 6. Way of Wade’s BOOM cushioning is very similar to Adidas’ BOOST, and it offers a responsive and springy ride on court with a good mix of impact protection and court feel.
This cushioning setup is yet another reason why the Shadow 6 will be a good outdoor option. When we play on harder outdoor courts, impact protection becomes very important; so, having a foam setup like this one underfoot is a big advantage. If you are looking for something very low profile and responsive with tons of court feel, this might not be the shoe for you. But, all in all, the Shadow 6 features a very nice and versatile cushioning setup (especially considering the price).
Wade Shadow 6 Support: Effective
There is nothing particularly groundbreaking in terms of the support featured in the Shadow 6, but everything works well together to offer a secure ride on court. The shoe is equipped with a substantial TPU torsional plate, which acts as a bridge between the two decoupled portions of the outsole. And, as it extends into the forefoot of the shoe, it also acts as a spring-plate.
The upper of the shoe is reinforced with several TPU overlays for added structure and containment, and the shoe features a strap that’s integrated into the lacing system and wraps around your foot, securing it in place when you tie your laces. There is an okay internal TPU heel counter as well as a substantial outrigger in the forefoot.
Something else to keep in mind with the Shadow 6 is that it’s built on a very narrow last. This, of course, will affect the fit of the shoe, but it also creates some instability. It is nothing major in the Shadow 6, but keep it in mind.
Wade Shadow 6 Materials: Depends on the Colorway
Depending on the colorway of the Way of Wade Shadow 6, materials vary greatly. There are versions of the shoe built in synthetic leather, others built in a thin, open-mesh textile, and others still constructed with a more substantial and more tightly woven textile material. In this case, our suggestion here at WearTesters is to go with the thinner, lighter textile build.
We are not generally huge fans of these modern, thin, synthetic textile builds; but — as far as performance goes — this will be the best option in the Shadow 6. This build will make the shoe lighter, airier, and will require zero break-in time without sacrificing lockdown in any way.
Wade Shadow 6 Fit: True-to-Size, but Slim
The Way of Wade Shadow 6 fits true-to-size, making it a safe choice for most players. However, its slim design caters more to narrow and standard-width feet. Wide-footed players may find the fit restrictive and should consider trying the shoe on before purchasing — though this could be challenging, given the limited availability in physical stores.
The lacing system combines innovative and traditional elements, including a lockdown tab, mag-wire cables, and standard grommets. While the inclusion of bubble laces is a welcome feature for securing a snug fit, they don’t fully complement the mag-wire setup, allowing for some slack.
Wade Shadow 6 Overall
The Way of Wade Shadow 6 delivers exceptional value for its price. With standout features like full-length BOOM cushioning and a durable outsole, it’s a reliable option for players who demand high performance without a hefty price tag. However, its slim fit and build are something to take into account, especially since Way of Wade basketball shoes aren’t widely (no pun intended) available in the US to try on in-store.
But, with that being said, unless you are a wide footer, the Way of Wade Shadow 6 is a very solid hoop shoe. If you are looking for a reliable 2nd pair of basketball shoes or a pair to beat up outdoors, the Shadow 6 is an especially nice and affordable pickup.
