OFF-WHITE founder Virgil Abloh took to Instagram to unveil an upcoming Nike sneaker he is working on. But did Abloh borrow his misplaced checks from John Geiger?
The latest sneaker Virgil has put his aggressive styling on is the Nike React Vapor Street Flyknit. A casual wear sneaker, Abloh has given this women’s sneaker track spikes to match OFF-WHITE’s SS19 ‘Track and Field’ theme.
The shoe features several large Nike Swooshes that can’t help but remind this writer of John Geiger’s ‘Misplaced Checks’, a custom theme he introduced with shoemaker The Shoe Surgeon in 2014. The theme has been released in dozens of series and it puts an emphasis on premium snakeskin and python Swooshes added to Nike Air Force 1 silhouettes. The ‘Misplaced Checks’ have gotten on the feet of celebrities the world over and garnered Geiger over 400,000 followers on Instagram.
While Abloh’s latest sneaker isn’t an exact copy of Geiger’s Misplaced Checks, the styling is quite familiar and begs the question: was Abloh “inspired by” the work Geiger and The Shoe Surgeon have done in the same way Kanye West gets inspired?

Man, if you get your foot stepped on by these you’re gonna have a lot of problems, especially if they’re anywhere as sharp as actual track spikes. Not feeling these, but to each their own!
