With no lead up or teaser, Under Armour has released the SpeedForm Slingshot 2. The new shoe, seemingly informed by minimalism, gets updates that should please fans of the original Slingshot.
Designed by Yurri Mial, the designer of the Highlight Delta 2 (a worthy upgrade to the original), the Slingshot 2 has become much more streamlined and now looks more like a sock atop a midsole.
That “sock” upper is constructed of UA’s Threadborne, a resilient and comfortable knit, and should offer a breathable and compression-like fit with anatomically correct perforations. Like the original Slingshot, the Slingshot 2 uses a burrito style tongue that wraps the foot for a closer fit.
The most notable changes on the Slingshot 2 are in lacing and cushioning. The shoe now features an adjustable wide-set lacing system that secures beneath the midsole. Paired with the external heel counter, the system should cinch the wearer’s foot down onto the footbed for good lockdown.
The original Slingshot used a layered cushioning system that had Charged above a layer of Micro G. Now, the Slingshot 2 ditches the Micro G for lightweight EVA, but keeps the Charged Cushioning we have come to love in the brand’s runners. The shoe rides atop high-abrasion rubber for durability.
The Slingshot 2 also retains the TPU plate in its midsole that gives it its name, which should offer a quicker toe-off on every stride. Additionally, the new shoe decreases the offset to just 6mm and decouples the heel to maximize that “slingshot” effect.

The Under Armour SpeedForm Slingshot 2 is available now at UA.com for $100 — that’s $20 less than the original Slingshot.

I own the original slingshot and slingride, and both are fantastic models with similar uppers. However, the heel area just isn’t for me. The knit material that protrudes in at the lips always digs into my feet and causes discomfort in that area. Even when wearing high socks I can still feel it. Looks like these have the same design, and for me, thats a pass.
Excellent work from Yuri once again. I like his render more than the final though – especially that sidewall. O/S pattern is fresh though
