For the serious marathoners out there, Nike has released the best it has to offer to racers with a new Vaporfly 4% Flyknit .
Nike’s groundbreaking (and near two-hour marathon breaking) race day sneaker has been upgraded with an even lighter Flyknit build and is now available, albeit sold out in most sizes already.
The ‘Bright Crimson’ colorway of the VaporFly 4% Flyknit introduces a knit construction to this shoe that is created to provide ventilation and support. A full-length carbon fiber springplate should provide a propulsive sensation from the heel and Nike’s revolutionary ZoomX cushioning — a foam that provides more energy return than any foam Nike has created to date — is featured underfoot for a cushioned ride.
The original VaporFly build dominated podiums across the world last year in marathons including wear from Shalane Flanagan, who became the first American woman to win the New York Marathon since 1977. This year, Kenyan athlete Eliud Kipchoge recorded the fastest ever marathon time of two hours one minute and 39 seconds at the Berlin Marathon in the Nike Vaporfly 4% Flyknit.
The Nike Vaporfly 4% Flyknit is still available at Nike.com in unisex sizing for $250 while Eastbay.com has several sizes stocked. Is your size sold out or are you looking to hold on to a little more cash?
For more check out the Nike Zoom Fly Flyknit, a shoe that carries many of the Vaporfly 4% Flyknit’s features with React Foam instead of ZoomX for a much easier to stomach $160.
