Remember when KicksOnCourt reported that Dwyane Wade would leave Jordan Brand for Li-Ning and Jordan Brand would sign Russel Westbrook? Looks like adidas Philippines had jumped the gun a little bit…

Hit the jump for more…

BEAVERTON, Ore. (October 11, 2012) –Today, Jordan Brand, a division of NIKE, Inc., announced the signing of Oklahoma City guard Russell Westbrook. The two-time NBA All-Star has agreed to a multi-year endorsement agreement with the brand.

“We are very excited to welcome Russell to the Jordan family,” said Michael Jordan. “Russell’s style, both on and off the court, combined with his love and dedication to the game make him a perfect fit for the Jordan Brand. We love the drive and passion for basketball that Russell brings.”

Westbrook (6-4, 187) was named to the 2011-12 All-NBA Second Team this past season after helping the Thunder reach their first NBA Finals appearance since moving to Oklahoma City. The dynamic point guard averaged 23.6 points per contest (fifth in the NBA) to go along with 5.5 assists and 4.6 rebounds during the 2011-12 regular season. The Los Angeles native scored 21 points and pulled in five rebounds in his second consecutive NBA All-Star appearance.

Westbrook followed up a very successful NBA season by playing his way onto the USA Men’s National Basketball team for the London 2012 Olympic Games. Playing in a reserve role for Team USA, Westbrook average 8.5 points, 1.6 assists and 1.6 rebounds while appearing in all 8 Olympic contests. His games were highlighted by a 21-point performance in a record-setting Team USA win when the Americans scored an Olympic record 156 points in a 156-73 win over Nigeria.

Westbrook joined the NBA and the Thunder after two seasons at UCLA where he helped lead the Bruins team to back-to-back NCAA Final Four appearances. He was named PAC-10 Defensive Player of the Year while logging 1,318 minutes played, the most by a Bruin since 1979.

  1. Damn , russel isn’t very good PG when comparing to other top tier point guards , he makes bad passes , takes bad shots and isn’t hustling alot :/ I would love to see Kevin , Kobe or James in Jordan though :/

    1. Westbrook doesn’t hustle? The dude is one of the very best guards in the game defensively. I don’t like his offense as a PG either because of his decisions, but the dude hustles like crazy, that’s what his game is based on.

    2. hes a scoring guard, hes explosive, he makes highlights, thats what jordan is looking for, that alone makes sales!, its a great sign for Jordan. Kevin, kobe or james?!?? they have their own shoe line, why would you think that? smh…

  2. Good fo Russell, not so good for JB in my opinion.
In other big time news :

“Li-Ning and Dwyane Wade have joined forces for a partnership that will create the WADE brand. Aside from the signature sneaker previewed recently, the WADE brand will also launch an apparel collection. Dwyane Wade will serve as the Chief Brand Officer of WADE, guiding the brand’s creative direction for all products.”

    THis is huuuuge!

  3. who the heck is that Picture – does not look like Westbrook – Looks like a wax totem Head Bobafet style.

  4. Something tells me that the blueprints for the cancelled Fly Wade 3 is gonna be recycled into the “Fly Westbrook” lol

  5. Nah Wade left JB cuz of the fact that they were scraping the wade 3 and planing on making him wear the flagship model. In all likelihood there going to make em wear the flagship. But I wouldn’t be totally surprised to see him get a sig in his 1st year

    1. They sent out an Instagram image – click the link above to read about it – claiming Westbrook as one of their athletes when contracts were signed. So… they jumped the gun a little bit since they ended up not signing him.

      1. Ok, but pin the tail on the donkey, who is the picture of. Looks like a Mc Farlane basketball action figure n not a picture.

  6. Good for Westbrook! I just hope there’s no bad talk going to adidas Philippines since I’m a filipino. Westbrook deserves it since there to much competition on who will join a signature model when Nike has Griffin,Lin,Rondo,Bosh.

  7. Sorry Shazam but by hustle you mean going for playground steals on NBA Gs like Manu and TP then getting blown by to the rim while complaining to the ref instead of getting back in the game ahhhh….. He’s great don’t get me wrong his in the top 5 SG in the NBA but that’s the problem his supposed to run POINT ether bump harden to PG so Westbrook can do his thing or he learns to play like TP. Look at the last 20 years of champs there is no team there that has won a championship with a PG shooting the majority of the FG% or 20 plus shots a game.
