Today Reebok hosted its official release event for the JJ Trainer, J.J. Watt’s first signature shoe with the Vector brand. And finally, after a few years of waiting, Reebok has made something that looks modern.
To make it clear that the three-time defensive player of the year is sticking around, the JJ Trainer is actually the JJ Trainer 1, the first in a series of shoes for the training beast. Watt’s first trainer has been over a year in the making and is specifically designed to be able to handle his explosive workout and conditioning regimen.
The JJ Trainer focuses on heel to toe stability, exactly what J.J. needs for those explosive lateral jumps and cuts. There seems to be real tech in this shoe like the FlexCage at the midfoot. It’s a substructure cage with webbing tie-downs integrated into the upper that provide lockdown without sacrificing agility. There is a second cage integrated in the toe for added protection during jumping and pushing exercises.
Reebok is also showcasing its newest cushioning technology: Liquid Foam. Reebok hasn’t said much about it, only that it “allows for rapid reaction to every impact.” It’s implemented as a big heel unit and can be seen in the photo below. There is no cushioning unit in the forefoot, presumably to keep it low-riding and responsive. An aggressive multi-directional traction pattern and internal heel clip round out the tech features.
“I’ve trained in many different shoes throughout my career, but there was never one that I felt was clearly the best shoe to get the job done,” said J.J. Watt. “So I decided to build one and with the help of some great designers, I am proud to say that we have created the best training shoe I’ve ever worn. We spent over a year making sure that this shoe would perform at the highest level on any surface for any activity. Everyone has their own personal vision of greatness, the JJ simply ensures that you have the right tools for the hunt.”
The JJ Trainer 1 is doing a few things right: splattered midsoles, modern look, and a retail price of just $100. The shoe will be available at Reebok.com, Academy stores, and other retailers nationwide on July 15. If you want to keep up to date with all the latest from Reebok and J.J. “We partnered with J.J. because he represents everything we believe here at Reebok; he is the true embodiment of Be More Human. He is constantly pushing his limits and overcoming obstacles to become the best version of himself through training and commitment. The JJ is really the embodiment of that partnership. We’ve built this shoe with J.J. to provide a tool for those to hunt their own greatness” says David Oksman, Head of US Marketing.

These look great. Ready to take over the dad shoe mantle from the new curry 2 low chefs.
Clean look, and an incedibly functional looking shoe, not necessarily a great looker, but they look like a great trainer for their purpose.
Can’t wait to see how these are.
