PUMA Hoops’ latest model, the PUMA Clyde Hardwood, gets a detailed look and review.
The Clyde Hardwood might be my favorite looking performance basketball shoe in years. Off-court style is there. Organic heritage and design language is there. Hopefully performance is there too.
With so many basketball shoes taking the textile route, it’s nice to see a shoe sport a bit of premium leather. While there isn’t a lot of it present, there is enough of it to make me feel like these are a well-made pair of shoes. The forefoot features the more modern textile and I don’t mind it at all. It seems strong enough for basketball while soft enough to not require a ton of break-in time.
Its outsole looks and feels amazing. I hope it grips as good as I’m anticipating.
Cushion felt okay from a try on. A bit firm, but perhaps needs to be broken-in. With a new marketing name like ProFoam, and being wrapped in TPU, I’m expecting it to feel solid on-court.
