Ben Simmons, who is the projected number 1 overall pick of the 2016 NBA Draft, has just announced that he has signed with the Swoosh and is officially joining the Nike family.

Before you ask, no, we don’t think Simmons will immediately get a signature model. Down the road? Maybe. Giving a rookie a signature sneaker right out of the gate is a gamble and while Ben Simmons is a big name, he isn’t as big of a name as other rookies who got signature models from Nike during their first season.

He’s not getting a signature model. Signing with Nike just means he’s a Nike athlete, and will wear Nike shoes.
Watch Nike try and make this guy the answer to Steph Curry. Such a bad character brand Nike has become, but I hope this young man has a good healthy rookie campaign. I heard that Nike had to pay out of their asses in order to get him, to which I say good for Simmons just as long as he has some freedom left.

He will be part of the Lebron family similar to CP3 and Melo being part of the Jordan Family.
Unless LeBron, Kyrie, or KD retires he won’t get a signature. He’ll start off in LeBrons, but my guess is, most Team Nike athletes will switch to KD’s as soon as they’re allowed next season.
