“Le Requin” — “the shark” (France’s nickname for the Air Max Plus) — is back and ready to be hybridized like many of Nike’s latest Air Max silhouettes. Today, the Air Max 97 Plus ‘Silver Shark’ is finally official.
This latest hybrid is done up in a striking colorway that is set off by Midnight Navy patent leather mudguards and color-transitioning tendrils. The Air Max 97 Plus combines the historic upper of the Air Max Plus, a shoe that has garnered a huge following in Europe, with the full-length Air cushioning from the Air Max 97.
Now, the shoes have been smashed together to create what Nike is calling the “bullet shark.” Metallic accents at the tips of the tendrils play off of the metallic accents on the tongues and sockliners. Finally, the fan-favorite Tn Air Max branding at the heel has been updated to reflect the shoe’s Max air cushioning.
The Nike Air Max 97 Plus ‘Silver Shark’ releases on June 16 for $175 at Eastbay.com.
For those that want something a bit louder, a red hot Air Max 97 Plus colorway debuted last month.
