The Nike Air Max 1 Ultra Flyknit is the latest classic to get a modern upper.
Very few of you were around when Nike dropped the Nike Air Max 1 and changed the sneaker world. Yeah, MJ and the Air Jordan 1 changed the way basketball shoes were marketed, but when visible Air found its way onto shelves in Foot Locker/Action, the game done changed. Watching the Air crash, collapse, and spring back, all to the tune of the Beatles “Revolution,” is still one of the greatest things ever seen in sneakers, maybe the world.
The shoe that started it all is back, if it ever left, and it’s new and improved. Following Nike Sportswear’s designs on the Air Max BW and Air Force 1, with carved out soles and Flyknit uppers, the Air Max 1 has its turn in the makeover chair and comes out with new bells and whistles as the Nike Air Max 1 Ultra Flyknit. Or, as Nike tells it:
“Perfected through countless prototypes, stewarded by the project’s lead designer Ben Yun, the shoe features open Flyknit construction in the toe and tongue for ventilation while closed construction in the heel provides added support. A no-sew rand just above the midsole connects to the original Air Max 1. The lightweight, flexible ultra tooling provides increased comfort.”
The Nike Air Max 1 Ultra Flyknit will be available in men’s and women’s sizes starting on July 21 via the SNKRS App and July 28 at global retailers.
The only Women’s colorway (so far):
