The original Reebok Freestyle Hi represents a landmark in the sneaker industry; in 1982, it was the first fitness sneaker marketed specifically towards women. 35 years later, the now-lifestyle silhouette is getting eight new builds with the help of top womenswear designer Jonathan Simkhai.
Reebok Classic partnered with Jonathan Simkhai, winner of the 2015 CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund, and debuted a new collection of Freestyle His at Simkhai’s Spring/Summer 2018 runway show in New York on September 9.
Each pair of the Jonathan Simkhai x Reebok Classic Freestyle Hi was handcrafted in-house at Reebok headquarters and uses custom fabrics including signature crochet, blue seersucker, indigo denim, and leather. Details of each pair aim to capture the essence of both the Reebok and Simkhai brands while also creating something unlike either has before.
“I have always admired Reebok’s commitment to crafting quality styles that cater to the many demands in a woman’s life, which parallels my own design philosophy,” said Jonathan Simkhai in a statement. “It was an incredible experience to work with the Reebok team to create unique variations of the Freestyle Hi.”
Given Jonathan Simkhai’s desire to instill confidence and pride in femininity the collaboration between Simkhai and Reebok is a perfect match on the Freestyle Hi, a shoe fueled by the company’s push to promote women’s fitness.
The eight builds of the Reebok Classic Freestyle Hi x Jonathan Simkhai collaboration will be releasing in limited quantities soon, although dates and prices are still TBD.
Eastbay has several Reebok Freestyle Hi builds in stock in both women’s and girls sizing.
