Last week, Under Armour called on collegiate students across the nation to present the best they had to offer in design and innovation.
March 1 marked the second annual Under Armour Design Future Show; it gave six design students in the U.S. the opportunity to stand in front of an executive panel and offer solutions to improve the running experience.
The panel of judges included UA Chief Design Officer David Dombrow, Vice President of Global Design Engine Noreen Naroo-Pucci, and Senior Creative Director Justin Howe. Also in attendance were over 300 employees, internally known as ‘Under Armour Teammates’.
The challenge for the six finalists was to successfully identify a problem, an unmet need, or general opportunity to improve the running experience, then present a solution-based design or innovation for the runner to the judges. The vision of each finalist was displayed in front of the audience in brand-centric designs that also met the trends of today.
The finalists, listed below, were split into two categories, apparel and footwear. Each winner of the respective category will receive both aa cas prize and a summer internship with the Under Armour Rookies program:
APPAREL FINALISTS
- WINNER: Olivia Horkan: Savannah College of Art and Design
- Chris Thornhill: University of Cincinnati
- Carissa Gooding: Columbus College of Art and Design
FOOTWEAR FINALISTS
- WINNER: Dylan Stewart: College for Creative Studies
- Ian Black: University of Cincinnati
- Rodolfo Solano: Montclair State University
