The FILA Spoiler was the pioneer silhouette that brought the tennis brand to basketball.
Way back in February of 2017 we reported that FILA had plans to bring back the Spoiler. Now, the silhouette is ready for a long-awaited retail release.
Back in 1995, prior to the debut of the FILA 95, FILA threw its marketing might behind a young ball player from Duke that some of you may have heard of: Grant Hill.
He wore the FILA Spoiler on court with the Pistons, and shortly thereafter FILA became the third largest sneaker maker in the United States. According to Kerry Segrave, author of Endorsements in Advertising: A Social History, FILA sales rose 37 percent in 1995 and 40 percent more in 1996.
The FILA Spoiler has returned in a pack of original colorways; the first features a tonal black and FILA buck build while the second uses a white upper, navy outsole, and flag details. Both colorways use tonal branding on the upper and midsole, as well as the iconic strap closure system.
Both pieces of the FILA Spoiler pack will retail for $90 each and release this Friday, September 1, at fila.com. (The sneaker retailed for just under $80 back in ’96, that’s around $125 in today’s money.)
You can compare the FILA Spoiler retro to its original here.

I love mid 90’s sneakers, whites on leather and blacks on nubuck/suede. If these are as comfortable as the Fila 96′ retro, is a must cop.
The FILA 96 has that super comfortable foam and A2 chip in the heel. I believe the Spoiler is straight EVA but it should be comfortable.
