When the schedules were made, the October 12 Thursday Night Football lineup looked like a dog — a Carolina Panthers team coming off a disastrous season against a Philadelphia Eagles team with unproven potential.
However, through the first five games of the season, both teams had surprising 4-1 records. You know what that means — hyped game and hyped shoes.
For two Under Armour athletes, this meant some serious customs. First, we have Cam Newton. Coming off the recent release of his off-field trainer, the C1N Trainer, and his namesake game shoe, Cam has been wearing some serious exclusives during warmups.
Before the Eagles game, he brought out the ‘Feathered Hat’. If you have ever watched a post-game press conference, you know Cam has a serious liking for hats, and this pair takes the love to a new level. Remember, these are not available for us normal people, but look — that’s actually a feather. Newton changed into Panther blue shoes before the game started, matching the game uniforms, but honestly, who wouldn’t have loved to see feathers flying during scrambles?
Not to be left out, receiver Torrey Smith also flaunted a pair of customized game cleats. For those non-football fans out there, Torrey’s brother, Tevin, died in 2012 before a Week 3 matchup with his team, the Baltimore Ravens, and the New England Patriots. Smith came out and caught six balls for 127 yards and two touchdowns, upsetting the Patriots and winning the game ball in honor of his late brother.
Under Armour went further for the Panthers game, setting Torrey up with a pair of Nitro Low custom painted by Dezcustoms. Torrey only grabbed one catch for six yards, but by honoring his late brother, Smith remained an asset.
