What if MJ received player exclusive sneakers back in 1989? That is the question Jordan Brand poses with the upcoming release of the ‘Alternate 89’ Air Jordan 4 Retro.
It’s a silly question, really. MJ has been known to get the most exclusive of exclusives since the brand is his, albeit back in ’89 things were a bit different. To me, this looks more like a ‘what if?’ type of shoe. What if MJ had a traditional ‘Home’ edition of the Air Jordan 4 back in ’89? In MJ’s later years we saw White/ Red colorways every year, but in the 80’s uniform rules were quite a bit different. You could only wear Black shoes or White shoes. These though… these are sick.
The leather panels are really nice touches to the shoe. Providing a bit of contrast along the entirely white upper. The toe and heel panels are smooth while the main panels are tumbled. Their Cherry Red midsole is beautiful as well. I think the red netting is a bit much, but it’s not a deal breaker by any means.
The Air Jordan 4 Retro ‘Alternate ’89’ will be available at retailers starting January 2nd for $190 and will be available from Men’s all the way down to Toddler sizes. Anyone plan on grabbing a pair or are you maxed out from the Holidays?

The red netting is the one thing that will keep me from copping. Would have been so much cleaner if it were white.
