I’ve been eagerly awaiting the fastpass deconstruction of the adidas Harden Vol. 1 and now, it’s finally live. fastpass went deep with this one and included deconstructed tooling comparisons to the Crazylight Boost 2016, D Rose 7, and Crazy Explosive (make sure to check page two for that). However, fastpass had an issue with the shoe while reviewing it.
The fit issue was caused by the black plastic that reinforced the eyelets on the interior of the shoe. A small triangle of about 10mm of the plastic extends down past the forefoot shroud and that caused for the fastpass team — so much so that while deconstructing the shoe they included images on how to remove that little bit of material (also on page two of this post). We haven’t gotten any reports of this being an issue for our testers, but we’ll know more come the full performance reviews.
The Harden Vol. 1 utilizes a shank plate, in the same infinity shape (or the shape of an 8), that is almost identical to what is used in the Crazy Explosive. when looking at the photos below, notice how the plate has been altered at the arch.
Make sure to check out both pages to see the entire deconstruction and comparisons. If you’ve been experiencing any pain or discomfort while playing in your Hardens, let us know in the comments below.
I love when people deconstruct shoes but when it comes most adidas shoes especially with boost you already know what the tech involves. Deconstructing Nike, Peak, Li-Ning, etc. products is more interesting as the cushion is usually hidden inside the outsole.
What if adidas did something like a bounce carrier with squishy boost inserts in the heel. miadidas could also give the consumer option on the type of boost they want (soft, firm, etc.).
Now that adidas is able to sculpt/mold boost like I saw in the EQT 93/17 we are going to get some interesting looking outsoles.
I partly agree with doing some sensible deconstruction although I must say that with this HV1 pair, it is also somehow looked educational. the pellets looked smaller and much compact and more pellets compared to the typical boost with bigger pellets. this could affect the bounce/response effect of the shoe. although I’m somehow intrigued with having a Bounce/Boost Hybrid.
me too…bounce with targeted boost would be dope
so…what makes hv1 so heavy?
Not sure about the scale of comparison pictures; if they compared same shoe sizes, then = it looks like Harden volume 1 has more Boost than CrazyLight Boost Low and D Rose7; and a little bit more Boost than Crazy Explosive.
It depends on the weight of the basketball player and how much push, how much strength is sent with each step.
I always enjoy the deconstructed articles!
great deconstruction. I just got these yesterday and love everything EXCEPT that awful toe digging. I’m glad they showed it here, but I hate that it means my options are return them or try cutting them :S (the days of me playing in painful bball shoes are over)
So you’ve experienced this digging caused by that small triangular piece of plastic? What size are you?
I’m a size 10 and have these in 9.5 . I went and tried them in a 10 today and had the same problem. Still trying to break it in, it’s a little better on my right foot , still sharp pain on the left. Starting to consider trying their children method.
*their cutting method. (autocorrect)

Hi, I am wearing Harden Vol.1 UK9 size. Having serious Top of the foot pain – Dorsal compression syndrome (pressure between the joints on top of the foot) after wearing. Previously wearing all other shoes including Curry 2 low, Air Jordan CP3 no problem at all. Is there any design problem? and how can I solve this problem? Adding foot arch support?
Another problem is the Harden Logo dropped out easily and gone missing. What a poor design!
Thanks
