adidas athlete Wilson Kipsang, a former world record holder, is returning to defend his title at the 12th Tokyo Marathon on Sunday. He’ll be wearing the adidas adizero Sub2 and it uses brand new Boost cushioning.
Equipped with a full-length Boost Light midsole for optimal energy recovery, the sneaker reduces its weight to just 156 grams with its Microfit single-layer upper. It rides atop a Continental Microweb outsole.
According to the IAAF, Kipsang, the course record holder in Tokyo, will be aiming for 2:02:50 — not quite under the two-hour adidas and Nike have been competing to break — but it will be nearly ten minutes faster than his personal best, 2:13:13.
“Every marathon starts long before the start line, and the last 42.195 km reflect the months of effort, preparation and dedication I have made to get here,” said Wilson Kipsang in a statement. “I am looking forward to returning to Tokyo and again Running in the adidas adizero Sub2, they are the fastest, lightest, and most responsive running shoes I’ve ever run in. I hope they help me reach my fastest time.”
At the end of the Tokyo marathon Kipsang will hand over the his new sneaker to the fastest adidas runner as a sign that the shoe is finally on sale. The adidas adizero Sub2 will cost $180 and release on March 15 online and at adidas stores worldwide. Overseas, the shoe will retail for € 199.95 (approx. $250 USD).
Kipsang’s PB is 2:03:13 (Berlin 2016), not 2:13:13
I believe the paragraph was referring entirely to his time on the Tokyo course.
