Performance Teaser: Jordan Super.Fly

The Jordan Super.Fly started out pretty rough but has turned into a very solid performer.

This type of Fuse is different than any other Fuse I’ve used before. It’s still comprised of three initial layers but its primary base is mostly a thin mesh that is then strengthened by the TPU infused top coat. At first it wont be an ideal fit but once they are broken in you will end up falling in love with the way they wrap themselves around your foot.

The cushion is another area that you will require some break-in time. In the heel you have a Zoom Air unit while a slightly dense Lunarlon is featured in the forefoot. If you have actually worn these shoes the feeling between the forefoot and heel cushion are drastically different & noticeable.

At first the dense forefoot and springy heel make for an awkward ride. It isn’t until the forefoot’s foam starts to break-in that you can really appreciate the midsole and cushion construction as a whole. I’d personally still prefer to have one cushion or the other just for ease of use in the beginning but this works just fine once you have put in the time to break them in properly.

If you can’t handle prolonged break-ins then you may not want to give these a go but if you don’t mind putting in a little work then this is a definitely a shoe to consider. There is much more to the Super.Fly than meets the eye and with all things considered… its worth looking at.

  1. How long did it take for you to break this in for the upper & cushioning? Just curious.

I think that the cushion is the other way around since they placed the “lunarlon” label at the heel, but I’m not sure.

These fit me fine true to size even if my feet are on the wide side, the shoe just felt really stiff for me to hoop in. lol

    1. Lunarlon is in the forefoot. You can feel the difference and you can see the zoom unit if you pull up the insole. It took about 4-5 hrs before they began to break-in for me.

      1. Oh ok, I didn’t dare to pull out the insole on the shoe that I tried on since I decided not to grab a pair yet due to the stiff upper. 4-5 hours doesn’t sound too bad for break-in time. Might grab a pair when they go on sale.

Btw, thanks on the tip for the M8’s, they were great to play in.

    1. Both bottom layers are mesh, sorry if
I didnt explain it entirely. Then there is a top coat to strengthen. Its much different than what nike has used with the base being the structural frame then mesh then the TPU shell. All the support in the upper on this model comes from the fit but only after it breaks-in.

      1. thanks, is there any difference with the shape of the midsole (wavy), is there any benefit, maybe like flexibility or compression…?

  2. NW, I have played in mine three times. One of my favorite shoes of the year so far – just waiting on the Lunarlon to see how it holds before I give a review. I think the fit and the cushioning out of the box are excellent and the traction is sticky-icky. You play in yours yet?

  3. Yeah, I did – because it didn’t say anywhere in the “performance teaser” that you did play in them. I didn’t know if this was a casual wear just to get a feel for the shoe in anticipation of playing or if this was a first impression from a game or two. I know you do great, thorough, unbiased reviews and you actually play so I was just asking. No need for the sarcasm – just a misunderstanding. This was the first time I had seen the site – I always watch your stuff on YouTube so I wasn’t familiar with your terminology.

    1. Sarcasm is what I do, no need to take offense to it. A performance teaser is only done once the shoes have been played in. First impressions are my initial thoughts prior to playing in them. Performance reviews are obvious so no need to explain that one. But thats pretty much what I do here on the site besides update info on upcoming basketball shoes and such.

  4. got these almost 2 weeks ago here in singapore, been playing on them and all i can say is…you are right, they are indeed beastly!i put my rose 2.5’s back in the box in favor of these gorillas ryt here!

    1. Hi Jiraiya. How’s the Jordan Super Fly holding up? Do you play outdoor or indoor? Would these shoes be good for outdoors? Look what happened to my Lebron X after not more than 30 hours of outdoor play;

I don’t want to spend another fortune and wreck it after less than 1/2 year.

      Many thanks in advance
