Jordan Brand has made history by signing its first ever Chinese basketball player, Guo Ailun.
Guo Ailun of the Liaoning Flying Leopards will join the likes of Russell Westbrook, Kawhi Leonard, and Chris Paul at Jordan Brand.
Ailun was previously with China-based brand, Li-Ning, who was paying him an annual salary of $1.1 million USD per year. This new deal with Jordan Brand will reportedly be giving Guo $1.4 million USD annually in sponsorship fees.
This is honestly the first time we’ve ever heard of Guo Ailun but despite our obliviousness to the Chinese Basketball Association, Ailun is one of the most popular players in China as he has 1.6 million followers on China’s Twitter-like platform, Shina Weibo.
Congratulations to Guo Ailun for being the first ever Chinese basketball player to be signed to Jordan Brand!
If they’re trying to get into the CBA they should check out Jimmer.
Way to be racist
How so? All I meant was that Jimmer was tearing it up in the CBA last year. You can choose to take it that way if you want to though. We all got our opinions.
Yea but at the end of the day hes a foreigner. I think most chinese people will want to buy something from an actual chinese player
yup. more like the Yao Ming marketing.
That’s awesome news! I haven’t heard of him either but great to see JB expand with local athletes in China.
I wonder if he’ll be marketed here in the States though.
it’s a marketing move and a good one to increase JB sales in the untapped chinese market especially a local popular player. this guy would be a lot more successful than the Ball’s stupidity.
+1
Great business move, and we always have something to say about Jordan Brand for better or worse, and dollars and mere material matters, just shoes, etc…but being the first signature athlete of your country under the most popular athletic brand, with recognition by no less than the legend that is Michael Jordan, is amazing.
he plays like a CBA version of Kyrie
