Vice President of Vans Events and Promotions Steve Van Doren just received his temperature color changing SK8-Hi customs by sneaker artist Mike Phillips, aka @sircastleteees — and he is all for them.

Steve Van Doren is the son and nephew of Vans co-founders Paul and James Van Doren. Of what began as the Van Doren Rubber Company, Steve has been an active employee with the brand since the age of 10. That being said, he has of course seen and been involved with a lot of Vans sneakers. As one who helped introduce original silhouettes, branding, and design, it is remarkable to see such positive reception of a custom silhouette he is so closely-tied to.

The SK8-Hi featured in the video shows a go-to design of Sircastleteees on Vans models. When heat is applied to the sneaker, it switches from a mix of cooler hues to a brighter, somewhat warmer design. Featured along the heels is “1966,” which pays homage to when it all began for the brand.

In our talk with Sircastleteees back in March, we discussed the possibility of working with brands in the future. These are the type of co-signs that could bring such dreams closer to reality.
