The collaboration focuses on putting an old twist on the Oliver Cabell Rennes trainer with the help of Cole Buxton.
After closing $1.2 million in funding, start-up Oliver Cabell, a transparent accessories label, entered the premium footwear space with two silhouettes. The brand produces all of its premium accessories in the Marche region of Italy — a mecca for luxury shoes — and pledges full transparency on costs so you know exactly what you’re paying for.
The Oliver Cabell Rennes is a modern athletic runner that takes inspiration from runners of the past, featuring luxury materials such as a calfskin leather from Italy, cowhide leather in the lining, and Italian waxed cotton for laces.
However, the brand’s first collaboration with British designer Cole Buxton attempts to merge “time-honored values with modern detail and fit.” Thus, the sneaker has a boxier shape, raw hems, and washed out color hues. The goal was to create a modern retro runner with old-school appeal.
This is in line with Buxton’s philosophy; the Cole Buxton brand focuses on “master simplicity,” refining a core collection of everyday wearable garments by updating classic silhouettes inspired by Ivy League schools and ’60s boxing gyms with premium materials, according to the brand’s website.
As such, the sneaker features handmade Italian suede along with a full-grain Italian leather upper. The premium upper sits atop a custom gum-bottomed outsole from Italian supplier Dami, a prominent shoe manufacturer known for high-quality shoes.
That being said, the Cole Buxton x Oliver Cabell Rennes trainer will be limited to just 50 pairs and will be available at 11 a.m. ET on April 17. It will be available on the Oliver Cabell website for $188 on release day.
