For the longest time, Nike’s ACG line has been rapped about by dudes and bought by dudes to, seemingly, impress other dudes. Now, the latest ACG collection offers garments for both men and women that will resist the elements in two ways.
By offering water-resistance and resistance to temperature change, ACG (All Conditions Gear) is meant to be durable. According to Nike, designers Johanna Schneider and Errolson Hugh, long-time partners with decades of experience in fashion and outdoor apparel, have introduced color to the ACG line (which returned in 2014 after a long hiatus).
“A huge component for us is the expression of the garment,” said Schneider in a statement. “Often, women’s product is so directional, it’s expressive and it carries a level of emotion. We discussed how that is sometimes missing in men’s product, and those conversations opened up a new space for the collection to evolve.”
The new ACG collection is highlighted by the NikeLab ACG 3-in-1 Coat, which uses a GORE-TEX outer shell, and the men’s and women’s versions get unique patterns with expressive colors like cool mint. A vibrant orange is used for the NikeLab ACG PO Shell, but black is still a big part of the collection with pieces like the NikeLab ACG LS TOP.
Schneider also designed the women’s ACG collection, which offers women’s specific design elements like the waist of the new trousers; it’s a raised, soft gusset that rises up the back against the skin to lock the body in.
Nike has not announced pricing or release information for this latest ACG collection so stay tuned.
