Under Armour Flow FUTR X 2 Performance Review

Under Armour Flow FUTR X 2

Under Armour Flow FUTR X 2

The Under Armour Flow FUTR X 2 is great for those looking to try Flow cushioning without breaking the bank.

Colorway: Black/White/Grey

Release Date: 2022

Price: $120

The Under Armour Flow FUTR X 2 is the followup to the Under Armour Flow FUTR X. It’s an entry-level basketball shoe for people who want to try Under Armour’s relatively new Flow technology. There’s little to complain about the shoe, and the few complaints aren’t even that big of a deal. This shoe will satisfy many players, especially those mainly playing indoors. This shoe is one of the best Under Armour basketball shoes today.

Under Armour Flow FUTR X 2 Traction

Traction

It’s the best I’ve ever tested. Bar none. Hands down. No questions asked. Right out of the box, the Flow sole gripped the slightly dusty wooden floor I played on. And Under Armour does not lie: it does not make a squeak. However, it gripped the floor the moment it came in contact with it. I had to get used to it because I’m used to having a slight slide before stopping. Looking for a shoe that will let you stop on a dime? Look no further because you’ve found it.

Its most significant weaknesses are tons of dust and sweat, and other liquids. Once it has collected enough dust, the performance lessens from A+ to A. Still great, but not as great. Durability isn’t the best either. I took these outside for a shootaround followed by a quick game of 1-on-1, and they already showed signs of wear.

Under Armour Flow FUTR X 2 Cushion

Cushion

Under Armour’s Flow technology is as smooth as ever in the Flow FUTR X 2. Impact protection was adequate for me. For reference, I’m 5’7” and about 75 kilograms/165 pounds with an average vertical. I can see guards loving this setup because there’s no delay during moves, and quickness and stability are strengths. Patty Mills is the only player in the NBA using this shoe consistently. He’s a shooter who needs to set his feet quickly before the close-out or contest. I see why he opts for these.

Under Armour Flow FUTR X 2 Materials

Materials

Materials are basic. The upper is a complete mesh build, with the back collar being a micro-molded mesh. The main textile used is somewhat crispy and needs some break-in time. It’s about a game’s worth, so it isn’t brutal like other shoes. The top two eyelets are made of nubuck, and there are fuse overlays for added durability.

Under Armour Flow FUTR X 2 Fit

Fit

Fit is true to size for almost everybody. Only those with extremely wide feet will want to go up half a size. The last (shape) and base are wide enough to accommodate most foot shapes. To aid security, there are two nylon lockdown cables on the medial and lateral midfoot areas.

Under Armour Flow FUTR X 2 Support

Support

Just as I said above, Flow’s strength is its stability. There is no wobble on any moves, and you can do your footwork more quickly in these than in most other basketball shoes. There’s a standard heel counter which isn’t substantial. There’s always some heel slip when I initially put them on, but it goes away as I play. A small torsional bar in the midfoot helps keep the shoe rigid and prevents your feet from overtwisting. There’s no outrigger, but the base is wide enough to compensate for the lack of hard plastic on the heel. Nothing outstanding and unnecessary in this department.

Under Armour Flow FUTR X 2 Overall

Under Armour Flow FUTR X 2 Overall

The Under Armour Flow FUTR X 2 is a solid basketball shoe for guards who mainly play indoors. Shooters will especially enjoy this setup because of the smoothness and stability of the Flow technology. There’s no delay in whatever movements you do on the court. Outdoor hoopers will want to look elsewhere because dust and concrete are this shoe’s worst enemies. If you’re looking to try Flow technology and don’t want to spend the extra bucks on a Stephen Curry sneaker, this is the shoe to choose.
