Top 5 Performance Picks of 2017 (So Far)

Editor’s Note: We now have an updated list of the Best Basketball Shoes. Click this link for our latest recommendations.

It’s mid-year 2017 and these are my top 5 performance picks so far.

You can grab each of our top 5 picks now at Eastbay.com

As of now, these are my top performance picks of 2017. Keep in mind that most of the new releases for the year don’t release until the new hoop season starts so things can, and likely will, change by the time the end of the year list rolls around.

However, if you’re in the market for a new pair now and cannot wait until the new batch of performance basketball shoes reaches retail then these are my top 5 picks that I feel you can’t go wrong with.

  1. wow, really expected the Crazy Explosive lows to be on this list! surprised they didn’t make the cut, I just got a pair of dame 3 and it might just need break-in time but it just doesn’t fit as nice as I was hoping, so ordered a pair of the CE lows to compare.

Anyway, thanks again for what ya’ll do here at Weartesters

    1. CE was a 2016 shoe. They were also my top pick of 2016. The lows were the same shoe just chopped down. Not sticking them on the 2017 list as its a 2016 model. Awaiting the CE ’17 though.

          1. redid the lacing on the dame 3 (utilizing the last two lace loops in the peg board) and now they fit/lockdown great, and once I broke them in love playing in them so far. Thanks for the recommendation NW + Weartesters crew. (thanks to ya’ll I’ve given these, the Rose 6, and the Soldier 6 a try and been ridiculous satisfied with each)

  2. Not to nitpick, but didn’t you rank the 29 low and JC2 low regardless of when the originals of each released? I would’ve been curious to hear if the CE had some “lasting power” in low top form, I can understand changing the system puts the spotlight on more models in general.

End of the year should be interesting with Nike React models and seeing how a tweaked (I wouldn’t say revamped) CE stacks up.

    1. Did you really mean to post that Eastbay link? It doesn’t look like they (Eastbay) are selling them with 50% off. Can you, please, provide the real link (the link where they are 50% off)?

  3. I’m usually a generation or two (or three) behind on shoes because of my budget, so I’m on my third pair of UA Anatomix Spawn 2s. I love them and as long as I can find cheap(ish) pairs floating around Amazon and Ebay, that’s what I’ve been sticking with haha. But I think that supply is finally drying up, so when I saw some 2016 Hyperdunks at a Nike outlet for 40 bucks last month, I scooped them up. My current UAs are still fine, but I’ve worn the HD’s a couple times just to start breaking them in, and they’re great so far. Hoping the shoe softens up a little bit as it breaks in… the mesh parts seem a little stiff. That’s my only complaint, but it’s not even that bad.

  4. Which shoe out right now would you say is closest to the lunar hyper dunk 2012 esp. with regards to fit and cushion. I haven’t been fully satisfied with a shoe since.
