Nike Elite Series: Choose Your Path to Glory

Nike’s latest push on their upcoming Superhero themed Elite models gives us a really cool video on shoes that don’t quite live up to their proposed expectations.

The video shows each shoe and exploits their main feature or performance attribute. We all know the FlyKnit upper of the Kobe 9 Elite wasn’t quite what we expected and the fit was slightly sloppy unless you used the LeBron 11 midsole for extra lift. Then the KD VI Elite lacked a truly secure fit leaving much to be desired in the lockdown department although the cushion was fantastic. And then there is the LeBron 11 Elite… the one I’ve been playing in as of late and they are anything but flexible… they’re pretty darn restrictive and the little plastic support frames are a killer on my feet.

Really cool video and a great concept but this years Elite Series, much like last years, is a bit underwhelming. If you ask me, I’d focus on making one kick ass hoop shoe for the players’ season and leave it at that… scrap the Elite Series and just make something that really works.

  1. I wouldn’t mind the elite series except for the pricing… Nonetheless, this is a really sick video.

  2. Money grab. They’ll milk us for what it’s worth until people stop giving Nike a reason to keep churning out elite series. 275… smh

  3. Why not make one shoe a year and have “special” colorways for the playoffs. I personally prefer the regular version of all three shoes anyways. Sales would be better too.

  4. While I agree that the Elite series is overpriced I will say that I personally prefer the Kobe elite and KD elite over their “normal” counterparts. Is this preference something that I would pay the extra money for? Probably not and if I didn’t have the Elite series to compare it to I probably wouldn’t notice what I was missing. Not disagreeing just trying to add a different opinion to all the Elite hate comments.

  5. It doesn’t help when your signature athletes aren’t even wearing their own shoes. Lebron rocked the soldier 7 all season. Kobe was injured all year and didn’t get a shot. And KD is still wearing the regular KD6 and not the elite during the playoffs. When the athlete can’t wear their own shoes why should you pay $200+ for it.

  6. I’d really like to see an outdoor version of the signature shoes. Us outdoor players really get shafted with limited, not so great choices. I know we can do XDR on nikeid but it’s not the same (XDR or not, lebron 11 and kobe 9 outsoles are just way too thin). I mean why does lebron need 3 models all targeted for indoor play? A decent outdoor soldiers would have been great.
