If you’re a fan of New Balance’s chunkier 990v3 tooling you’re in luck; the latest ‘Caviar and Vodka’ pack uses three fan-favorite heritage runners — the 1500, 770, and 991 — to create new hybrid builds.
Inspired by caviar and vodka, two luxurious Russian delicacies, the pack consists of three Made in England trainers constructed at the Flimby factory: the 1500.9, 991.9, and 770.9.
The NB M1500.9 uses a striking blue, black, and gold color scheme with the usual premium suede, leather, and mesh construction. The 1500, usually a sleek casual wear runner, has now been made bulky with the help of the Encap-cushioned 990v3 tooling.
Dressed in dark brown and black hues, the NB M991.9 ‘Caviar’ receives stunning pebbled leather at the toewrap and heel. The shoe is a near-perfect execution on the theme, and its 990v3 tooling echoes off-white and brown hues to match the upper.
Finally, the NB M770.9 ‘Vodka’ is outfitted in a white, cream, and silver look that may remind some of the infamous Stussy x New Balance collaboration. Admittedly, the 770 looks…interesting atop the bold 990v3 tooling, but the premium leathers and suedes used to build the upper should make fans content.
As with all luxury goods, expect steep prices when the New Balance ‘Caviar and Vodka’ pack releases June 2. According to Hanon, the M770.9 will retail for £149 (approx. $200 USD), the M991.9 for £169 (approx. $228 USD), and the M1500.9 for £159 (approx. $215 USD).
