Traction – Looks and feels great from what I can tell holding them in hand. The herringbone is full length and the rubber used is pliable. Good news for you outdoor ballers, the rubber feels strong enough to be work on outdoor surfaces and last a good amount of time.

Cushion – Same setup as what we’ve seen in the previous Rose signatures but the midsole is a bit thicker – especially in the heel – so they will offer slightly more protection than say the Rose 2.5. A PU insole is provided which is always a welcomed addition as they are able to provide you with a bit more impact protection from foot strikes & the SprintFrame itself.

Material – Premium synthetics are used for the ‘Away’ colorway while a Nubuck is used for the ‘Home’ – I purchased the Home colorway online not knowing these were coming so I’ll make a video to compare the two next week. Break-in time isn’t going to be needed… at least not with the upper. It feels soft yet strong so I’m sure they’ll hold up while on-court.

Fit – They fit true to size and the SprintFrame is slightly wider than previous renditions – especially compared to the Crazy Light 2 – so most people should appreciate the modified fit. Once laced up they feel secure as the synthetic wraps around the contours of your foot perfectly… much better than a leather upper would prior to being broken-in. Yes, I do love leather but I also admit that synthetics are better long term in most cases.

Ventilation – The entire shoe is perforated with a modified SprintWeb. Ventilation isn’t quite as open as the Rose 2.5 but when comparing it to the Crazy Light 2 – these win hands down.

Support – SprintFrame is in place once again which will provide all the support you’ll need. If you haven’t seen me discuss what SprintFrame can do for you then I suggest searching my previous adidas reviews as I’ve gone over it multiple times.

These look great, feel great and they are the latest signature sneaker from one of the best Point Guards in the league… maybe not ‘the best’ but by far the most dynamic. Are these worth the $160 price increase? I can’t say for certain until I’m done playing in them but up front… $160 sure sounds a hell of a lot more reasonable than a $180-290 price margin.

  1. definite cop even if they perform bad because they are very inspirational and symbolize the #TheReturn. Love that video series best thing Rose has ever done with adidas

  2. Tried these on today. The feel very nice on the foot and the materials are high quality. I liked the look and feel of the uppers on the homes better. Cushioning is very firm. I wanted to pick up a pair, but I just couldn’t drop $160 on these when there are other great performance shoes out there for significantly less. If Nightwing gives these a good review, then I will definitely get a pair once discount codes/coupons are allowed on orders.

  3. Ohh man i wanted this colourway but now that i saw images of the ‘scarlet’ colourway and now i’m contemplating those. Hey nightwing, you know what kind of material is used on the upper of the scarlet’s? It’s just that red speckled midsole on the away’s which sold me.. but the scarlets look nice too. Also which is stronger? nubuck or the synthetic leather used on the home and aways?

    Thanks man

    1. Adidas sent him the shoes. He didn’t know thathey were being sent to him before he ordered the other colorway.

  4. looking forward on your performance review…also cant wait for these shoes to hit Philippine stores…more power to you Mr. Nightwing…

  5. Hey nightwing, I recall you had the nike hyperaggressor, will a performance review still be done with that shoe?

  6. Did these come with flat laces and round laces? I noticed in other pictures / colorways they came with round laces.

    1. Wow! you also notice man! High Five Bro! I was also purchasing at adidas but they didn’t have the round laces on the “home” which we always see at footlocker! So technically on the Home,Away and Electricity(It’s early released here in my country) they don’t have the round laces but hopefully they will have it on the upcoming colorways

  7. Great review of the products. I have just purchased the ‘home’ colorway. The nubuck is definately more classy than the ‘away’. The shoe it’s for sure a good upgrade from the last ones (mainly the 2.5). I’m looking forward for your performance review!Keep up the good work.

    1. That won’t happen while he’s in the NBA, he signed a 14 year contract extension last year (don’t know how long his original contract was).

  8. Hey Chris 😉
I loved the look of the shoe but now that I’ve seen your “previews” I could buy a pair, can you tell me if they fit true to size? Are good to go for “widefooters?
    Cheers mate

  9. AMEN 2 that finishing statement about the 180 – 290!! Cant wait 2 see how these perform…i mite wanna pick em up.That leather looks very nice, the midsole looks like it would give a good amount of cushion and the PU insole just adds 2 that! Im nota huge adidas fan but i am a Rose sneaker fan so we’l see!

  10. Hey Chris I have a serious issue, on the Nike Store they say about the Penny V :

“Featuring Nike Zoom and Nike Air cushioning on the bottom and a foamposite wave overlay on the upper, the Nike Air Penny V Men’s Shoe carries on the comfortable fit and futuristic appeal of its predecessor.”

    and

“Phylon midsole with Air-Sole unit in the heel and Nike Zoom unit in the forefoot for lightweight, low-profile cushioning”

How is that fckn possible since you find none????

    1. Well there isnt ANY foamposite on the shoe. There arent two pull tabs as stated either. And no, there is no Zoom that I can feel inside the shoe & I’ve played in them already and while the foam was decent i still did not feel any Zoom.

      1. Maybe it’s the same setup as in the KD IVs where you couldnt feel it either, I was thinking the zoom unit might be behind those pods, bottom loaded…

          1. OK thank you very much sir!

I very much liked the Penny line and this shoe line but I’ll keep my money for something better.

          2. O and while I’m at it congrats caus you’re the only reviewer I saw that pointed at those flaws.
I dont even talk about Nike not telling the truth about their product.
Fact is I just saw a review on sneakerfiles.com and they give the wrong info as well.

You fully deserve your DRose packaging 😀 I hope you’ll have more in the future!

  11. Personally….. they look great! Now that NW is saying that it also might perform better I think that I might as well play with these and good to know they last outdoors since I usually play outdoors! But to be honest, I have a wide foot but not too wide…. it was true to size but I had to go up half a size cause I have a feeling those uppers will sink down to pinch my foot in the near future! Hopefully that won’t affect my lockdown on the forefoot due to the padded geofit and mesh tougue which feels like your wearing it with speedwraps on the heel.

  12. Hey man, nice video!
I was wondering if you think these are better than the Hyperdunks for performance?
    Thank you

  13. Nightwing…… I wasn’t able to ask this but, do you tie your laces to the very top or it’s fine up to second to the last regarding on ankle support cause the geofit is so padded that it feels like a shoe with ankle braces. Based it on your opinion.

  14. yeah i just picked these up. but for 80 so i thought they were a good buy. they looking really promising and comfy to me. i think these fit true to size. personally i think the away is better than the home colorway

  15. These actually felt much better than the previous model on my wide feet. Looking forward to the full review.
