With the Raptors facing off against the LeBron James-led Cavaliers — two teams with big-time Nike endorsers — the Swoosh seized the opportunity to unveil the latest in Kobe’s signature series: the Kobe AD NXT 360.
The shoes uses the next iteration of Nike’s knit, Flyknit 360, that mimics the shape of the entire foot. The new technology debuted in February in Nike’s $275 Mercurial soccer boots (which usually get the latest and greatest Nike innovations).
Once the knit is woven, it is formed with heat that applies the shape and support underfoot. Nike says that this method produces 60% less waste than traditional cut and sew method and offers a closer fit that should reduce movement within the shoe
The Kobe AD NXT 360 is the first implementation of Flyknit 360 in Nike’s basketball line and the brand has paired that with new cushioning: a dual-density drop-in React and Lunarlon midsole. The shoe rides atop clear outsoles with traction comprised of those aggressive nubs (which do not last outdoors).
Nike has not announced pricing or release information so stay tuned for updates.
