The BrandBlack J Crossover 2.5 is Available Now

BrandBlack just launched the J Crossover 2.5 — an updated version of the J Crossover 2.

The overall performance will be the same as the J Crossover 2, but without any of the negative issues that came along with the knitted upper. Mush like the J Crossover 2 Low, these feature lightweight Flat Knit upper construction with fused TPU top layer for added stability. No forefoot stretching with these guys so containment is greater than the original. While the blade traction pattern remains the same, the rubber compound has been modified for superior grip on the hardwood — and the original already did that pretty well. Jetlon is featured as the midsole cushion along with the two Force Vector support plates.

Three colorways are available now so if you’re interested in trying a different way to fly then you can head over to BrandBlack.com to try them out.

  1. Loved the JC2s. My only issue is the fabric around the ankle collar which is paper thin and tears really easily. Aesthetic issue only but was hoping they’d address this.

  2. These are gorgeous, I loved my jc2s but the forefoot was too unstable so I eventually turned them into casual wear only. If these had blackfoam I’d get em bc I have yet to try it and Ive been wanting to. Plus I missed out on the WT ether unfortunately.

  3. I finally picked up a pair of these after playing in a couple different JC2s (navy, Northern Lights X Revolve). These I got the grey ones and yes all that is said above is accurate. Ostensibly the tooling is the same but these are noticeably grippier, even on an outdoor court. Great traction, the best of blade for sure. I felt like the JC2 (and to some extent the JC3) didn’t give me great traction in all directions, despite being very similar to the eye to the JC2, these definitely improved a bit in that aspect and offered a lot more “bite” moving both laterally and straight ahead.

Containment was another minor issue with the JC2. It wasn’t as severe to me as the AJ29, but here any issue with slippage in the forefoot or the material stretching out has been solved. They didn’t take the extreme, unnecessary measures Jordan did with the XXX (hard heel counter, weird toe wrap thing and of course a junkier outsole) but rather the same approach of a polyurethane overlay at the forefoot, which is thoughtfully constructed at the medial side to offer extra protection, anatomical fit/lockdown and also defense against the material creasing (the overlay is sort of sectioned off and reinfoced around your big toe).

I do think there is a little less fluidity in these as a result of the construction but the benefits far outweight that minor detriment. If you’re looking for a shoe with crazy, springy bounce, these are not for you, but if you want a more of court feel, stability, impact protection and comfort, then you will find these to be a good option. Not quite as wide/stable as the Curry 2 but close and with better cushion and better support than the 2, no odd burrito fit and sweatiness like the 2.5. If you like the Curry 2, Adidas Gil Zero and other shoes that try to offer a balanced package, then you really like these.
