PEAK TP1 Performance Review

Slight improvements from the Team Lightning in the areas that matter most… progression at its finest.

PEAK TP1 Performance Review 1Traction – With a combination of translucent and solid rubber, you’d think that the traction would be in for some trouble. Luckily that isn’t the case here and the rubber used in conjunction with the pattern itself works great on multiple court surfaces… even those wretched 24 Hr. courts. They also played well outdoors and I think they will hold up nicely for blacktop hoopers.

PEAK TP1 Performance Review 2Cushion – Same exact Gradient Dual foam setup that was featured in the PEAK Team Lightning TP9 PE that I played in previously and I still enjoy it just as much as I had originally. Like I mentioned in the last review, there isn’t much in terms of responsiveness or bounce back but shock absorption is available and apparent. Your reaction speed isn’t compremised with a mushy cushion as well so that is something that I enjoy… light and low to the ground while protecting each step while maintaining court feel.

PEAK TP1 Performance Review 3

Material – Fuse is used again but this Fuse definitely feels thicker and nicer than the Team Lightning. If Fuse could feel ‘premium’ then this would offer that feeling… these and the LeBron 10. Its durable, requires zero break-in time and everything moves well with your foot… what more could you ask for?

PEAK TP1 Performance Review 4

Fit – They fit true to size, wide footers will have to make your own judgment as they don’t really feel tight or wide at all… just like the Team Lightning, they just seem to fit nicely.

Lockdown is great from heel to forefoot. I enjoy the containment of the materials and the way the heel section feels, you’re locked in but not in a restrictive way and that back section of the shoe feels reminiscent of a 90’s shoe which is a big plus for me.

PEAK TP1 Performance Review 5

Ventilation – The ventilation is one area that took a hit from the last model but the materials are able to retain their shape, the fit/ lockdown doesn’t allow your foot to slide around so… even though its not as ventilated as the Lightning, I didn’t find it to be an issue.

PEAK TP1 Performance Review 6

Support – Most of the support comes from the great fit and lockdown while the rest is provided by the exaggerated outrigger and torsional plate at the midfoot.

PEAK TP1 Performance Review 7Overall – I love everything about the TP9. They look good, feel good and play good. Its and easy go-to shoe for me, being a guard, and one of my favorite models so far this year… something to take with a grain of salt since its mid January.

If you are looking to grab a pair then you can hit up their Canada retailer – which ships internationally – or their US based retail store at the following links. http://peaksportsusa.com & http://www.peaksportscanada.ca.

  1. The material used on this one definitely looks better than what they used on TP9. I actually just bought these and Battier 8 from China and I can’t wait to play in them.

      1. In my experience, Cushion-3 is mushier than Gradient Dual and it slows down your reaction speed a little bit. Plus the shoes that have Cushion-3(include Battier series) always use an extremely soft insole (even softer than TP9’s). That’s why they replaced it with Gradient Dual on most Guards models.

I have worn Battier 4~7 before, they all have a very secure fit and extremely mushy cushion. I guess that’s what Battier likes to have in his shoes. But for me, a 5’7” guard..That soft cushion is a little bit too much. I can almost feel my feet sink into the shoe when I play in them. They do feel very nice, but they are just not bulit for guards (LBJ10)

        1. I’ve had peak monsters and If i’m not mistaken its cushion is also the cush-3. There were no bounce, as in dead bounce from the cushion but it’s very responsive, comfortable and absorbs impact. I prefer this cushioning system than the dunks because dunks tend to flatten and lose its responsiveness, comfort and bouncyness in the long run.

          1. Monsters don’t have the kind of insole that Peak uses on most of their shoes that have Cushion-3, which is odd since that insole is actually a part of Cushion-3…..(Cushion-3’s original defination is that 3 different parts work together to cushion: outsole, midsole, and insole….sounds funny but it’s true). That’s what makes it feel different from other Cushion-3 shoes, I like Monster series as well.

          1. I prefer 7, 6 and 7 share many similar designs/parts, but 7 has two more advantages.

First, 7 has a inner sock that is similar to Air Pippen 2’s inner sock in the heel. It locks your feet very well and give you a secure fit. According to the designer of the shoes, you can cut the threads used to connect that inner sock and the upper, so it would function separately and more flexible.

Second, 7 has a weird thing that hugs your feet on the upper, but to me it doesn’t function and I cut it off, so that It would be easier to lace up the shoes. You can leave it there if you have wide feet.

      2. Hey nightwing
I’m interested in the tp9, anta rondo 1 and the li ning way of wade
I have a wide foot and I’m a small forward.
        Which should would you recommend?

  2. About upper material:
i personally think that UA spawn fuse is better than LebronX or anything else from nike
in spawn they are 5 layers including 2 mesh layer, also flex like a synthetic leather, matte finish

@Nightwing2303, what do u think about best upper so far?
    my list is
    1. adidas techfit, cq1
    2. nike Engineered Mesh, kb8
    3. UA fuse, spawn

i never tried knit upper from nike/adidas

  3. It seems like the PEAK USA website is behind the times. I can only see these and the Battier VIII on the PEAK Canada website for sale.

Interesting to see Indiana Pacers’ guard George Hill get Peak apparel endorsement.

Thanks for the review and putting many of us on PEAK NW. I moved slow on the TP9 last year, but I might not this time.

  4. Great review. I haven’t even seen Tony Parker wearing these yet, Nightwing. Have any of you guys? If not, it’s kind of cool that you’re rocking them before he is.

Just curious, what do you guys pay for these in China?

    1. He wore them in the Christmas night game. I suppose PEAk wants him to wear them after the allstar game.

I got my pair for only 315 RMB, which is about only 52 american dollars

      1. Yeah, I assumed it has something to do with when Peak wants him to wear them. I didn’t think I saw him wearing them in any games. If he wore them in the Christmas game, then I don’t recall, as I wasn’t happy with the performance of the team in that game to take notice of what he was wearing.

lol, I probably shouldn’t have asked about the prices. That’s an amazing price for them. I’d definitely have a pair right now if I had access to those prices. I can’t even get a freaking email reply from Peak Australia to even get a price on what they’d cost to get here. As usual, it’d probably be cheaper for me to get them from overseas, but man, Peak Australia sucks, they don’t reply to emails or inquiries at all. I’d just like to know if they can get them and what the price would be. Crap customer service.

      2. wuke, is that how much they’re going for in china? 315 rmb? i think i’m gonna head up there one of these days…

        1. The retail price is 619, which is how much they sell in most stores. You can get discounts online and get them for 495, which is about 80 dollars. However, in some famous online Taobao stores (like the one I bought mine from), if you tell them you’re from a forum called “Hupu” they’ll change the price for you before you pay.

Sadly, this cannot be done if you don’t know how to speak Chinese…

          1. oh, i can speak/type chinese, i don’t know a whole lot about how to use tao bao though, time to ask friends of mine

          2. @Wuke

Which store/person did you buy the shoes from? I’m close to China. I am considering buying from Taobao since the shipping costs should be much cheaper than from USA. However I am a bit worried as the prices are too good to be true and considering it’s from China, it might be fake.

Hope you can share. Thanks in advance

          3. You can rarely find fake PEAK shoes, since with the same cost those people can make fake Nike shoes and make more money out of it. Those prices are not “too good to be true” since that’s just how cheap most Chinese basketball shoes really are in China.

            q499098628.taobao.com

This is the store where I bought mine from. You have nothing to worried about. They are selling TP1 for 500 RMB now, but after you place your order (before you pay), you can contact them online and let them change the price to 350 RMB (It raised a bit due to how popular these shoes are).

          4. @ Wuke

Thanks for replying. I am looking for a Nike shoe therefore I suspect there are lots of fakes to be found. Do you know any reputable Nike b’ball shoe seller? I tried to Google them but nothing. There are so many sellers, hard to choose especially with the prices all different from the other.

          5. unisxl.taobao.com

            ctkicks.taobao.com

            42shoes.taobao.com

Here’re three reliable stores. They are reputable sellers who don’t touch fake stuff. I’ve purchased shoes from all three of them, personally I prefer the first store since it has a little bit better price

  5. Hi nightwing, I always follow you review, really nice work. recently I bought lining cloud basketball shoes, latest technology released by lining, I though you could do a review if you have chance get a pair

  6. I’m hoping I can grab a pair because if that rubber is good on multi surfaces my problems are solved

    1. This is the problem for me. If the price is $129.99, I’d rather get Under Armour, Jordan Brand or Nike at those prices. I would have also picked Adidas ahead of them at that price point as well (if only they released a durable outsole version of the Puremotion 2.0).

If Peak want to get their products out there, then they shouldn’t be charging that much. Under Armour is only charging $119.99 for the Spawn Anatomix.

  7. Hey NW, I tried posting earlier a link earlier, but I guess it didnt post…

    hibasketballshoes(dot)com

Looks legit. Has a bunch of the Chinese company shoes. They got Anta, 361 Degrees, lots of the Team Li-Nings, etc…
Those Team Wades, particularly the Team City 2.0 looks sick performance wise.

    1. I have the Wade All City 2.0. They feel pretty good on foot and cushion isn’t bad at all. I think it’s the new one that they call Cloud. I also got them on that site along with my WOW 1 Low and WOW 1 Mid.

  8. Hey Guys, I work at the Peak USA Melrose Location and Just a heads up We have 2 Monster models available in store at our Peak USA stores ( Melrose and Culver city Locations)… We do accept phone orders also…. 323.966.5870

    1. I’m not in the US, but just curious – How much are they?

Also, why are the retail prices higher in the US than in China?

  9. Thanks Wuke for the recommendation at taobao.com.

Bought the Blue-White TP1. Now I just have to wait for it to reach. =D

  10. I just got these in the all black. I’m pleasantly surprised. Peak seems to be on point with this one. The step in comfort and fit are perfect. I always have pain with certain Nike shoes especially in my small toes but these feel great. Great review NW. Appreciated as always.

  11. Does anyone know if the traction would be durable on rough outdoor courts? I’m hesitant about the translucent rubber and the fact that NW said they were fairly pliable.

    1. I’ve used them a few times outside and they seem fine. Unless you do a lot of jab stepping or moves that would add even more stress to the traction, they should be fine.

  12. Hey bro. Imma big fan of your work and effort, keeping other hoopheads informed and updated. I’m from the Philippines and I always have a tab of your site in my computer. It’s great that performance shoe competition is rising up a bit the past couple of years.

I have a question about materials: I noticed that ventilation score you gave to TP1 is a point lower than the first Way of Wade. On a one-on-one comparison, does the fuse of TP1 trap the heat worse than premium leather?
It is terribly humid here, along with the tropical weather.

Keep up the great work Nightwing. Salute!

  13. Managed to get brand new TP1 for around USD65.. Certainly one of my better outdoor shoes aside from Nike Hyperfusion 2014 and Nike Zoom Fire XDR

    1. Do you think they can last a long time on outdoor court? Because i play from 12 p.m. to 10 p.m. and i wanna be sure if they don’t burn fast.

  14. it is low profile where you feel the floor and get pain like rose 4.5\crazy quick? or it is plush like hyperdunk\kb mentality etc..?

  15. Long term review- Great shoe
I’ve worn the Peak TP1 for over a year now ,two indoor games a week.
Found the cushioning comfortable and firm , not too low at all.
Compared to my 2014 hyperdunks, the cushioning has held up much better.
Would certainly purchase high end Peak kicks again.
