First Look at the adidas Dual Threat

adidas dual threat 7

Last year, adidas brought us the Dual Threat BB, a high-collared cousin of the Lillard 1 with a velcro/spandex collar and adiprene+ cushioning. It wasn’t a bad performer, and although it never got a proper performance review on WearTesters, it was worn and enjoyed. Now, the adidas Dual Threat is hitting retail shelves at Dicks Sporting Goods.

The Dual Threat for 2016 brings full-length Bounce cushion (which, upon try on against the Crazy Explosive, wasn’t too far behind), synthetic leather on the ankle, much like the Rose 7, and forefoot and midfoot engineered mesh — again, much like the Rose 7 (see a pattern?). The outsole is full-length segmented herringbone, and it is a harder rubber, but it isn’t deep, so outdoors may be iffy. The upper is stiff and thick but flexed well indoors.

Priced at $80, this could be the steal shoe of the season — full-length Bounce for $80 is nuts, plus the mesh and leather upper will last a season at least. Be ready for a ton of team colorways coming soon, and stay tuned here for a performance review soon. Thoughts and comments are welcome below.

  1. These look like good performers. This new trend of slim and shallow traction worries me though. From what I’ve read, even the CE traction wears down indoors quickly.

  2. Taj Gibson wears the Dual Threat. I need these in purple. $80 is a steal! I know adidas has cheap insoles, so a simple insole swap and we are good to go.

  3. Same cushion and traction as the rose 773 and light em up 2.
The cushion is not full lenght boost and tottaly lacks forefoot cushioning.
Adidas just uses the same midsole setup and just changes the upper to make a new midrange model.
I prefer buying the 773 or light em ups at an outlet for a lower price

    1. Ahhhh…so it is just the back half of the shoe that has the Bounce? That’s what I was wondering from looking at the shoe in the pic.

      1. It is 3/4. Runs right to the forefoot counter – where the dimples stop. I wet back and checked them out today to confirm. Still feels good under foot.

        1. Was wondering about that. Adidas tends to not prioritize forefoot cushioning. They have a bunch of models, with boost and bounce, where the cushion is very nice in the heel and stunted in the front. If I had a choice I’d rather have it in the forefoot and nothing in the heel. Nike seems to prioritize the forefoot more.

  4. HD2016 was at dicks for $93 yesterday. You can still cop Hyperrev2016s for $70. Just an FYI if you’re looking for some cushion.

  5. I have the Dual Threat 1. Yup! Take off (hypothetically) it’s “techfit” velcro and you now have DLillard 1. And they actually perform well.
Please do make a performance review on these or a vs video of these Dual Threat BB 2016 vs Dual Threat BB 2015.

  6. It is very good in terms of its design and traction but there is something. I don’t know if it was just me, but the sides with an Adidas logo on the rubber sole gives me a painful feeling on my feet when I use it for minutes.
