The Reebok SB-01 is an Out-of-this-World Boot, Literally

Here is a category that probably never ever crosses your minds if you read this site: boots for astronauts. Seriously. Lucky for astronauts, Reebok has been thinking of their feet for quite some time. The brand has used its latest running technology, Floatride Foam, to come up with a new lightweight space boot that is in testing now.

Named the SB-01 (Space Boot 1), the boot is the first major change in over 50 years of moon landings and space walks. Reebok partnered with the David Clark Company to create a protective and supportive boot that is still focused on comfort and performance. The Reebok SB-01 is designed for integration into the final space suit which will shuttle astronauts to and from the International Space Station in Boeing’s new vessel, the CST-100 Starliner.

“Weight is a huge factor in space travel with just a single pound having big financial implications. Traditional space boots were made of rigid leather with firm soles and were not integrated into the actual space suit,” said Matt Montross, from Reebok Innovation, in a statement.

“Reebok Floatride Foam introduced three revolutionary elements to the space boot; it decreased the overall weight significantly, it brought the added comfort in a space boot and support that you would expect in a running shoe and it delivered a new level of sleekness and style.”

Check the photos of the Reebok SB-01 and let us know your thoughts. Surely, someone would rock those space boots casually — you’ll probably see them in SoHo soon enough.

  1. Honestly I’d rock them casually. I love space exploration and this is the closest I could get to feeling like an astronaut lol
