Pharrell Williams has applied his design talents to adidas Tennis’ US Open 2017 outfits.
The collection will debut at Flushing Meadows on the leading names in tennis including defending champion Angelique Keber, Dominic Thiem, Simona Halep, Jelena Ostapenko, Jo- Wilfred Tsonga, and Tomáš Berdych.
According to adidas, Pharrell drew inspiration for this collection from the bold attitudes of ’70s-era superstars and kept technology as the focus; he remixed iconic styles with the latest adidas technologies, like the recently resurrected ClimaCool.
The adidas Tennis Collection by Pharrell Williams includes apparel, accessories, and footwear that flaunt colorful looks and two distinct motifs: primary color-block and off-white pin stripe. Pharrell has paired these elements with engineered knitwear.
adidas Tennis footwear in this collection includes the Ubersonic 3 women’s shoe in a new Pharrell Williams colorway and the men’s Barricade in a new colorway.
Kerber will be wearing the New York Color Blocked Dress that utilizes a warp knit mesh body fabric. The 3-in-1 dress is equipped with ClimaCool and quick drying fabrics. Roland Garros finalist Simona Halep will sport the New York tank which features a flat knit ribber collar design with multicolor stripes.
“The US Open is such an exciting tournament for me. Last year I not only won the tournament for the first time, but also won the WTA World Number 1 ranking – reaching an achievement that I have dreamed of since I started playing tennis,” said Angelique Kerber in a statement. “To come back and play in a dress from such an exciting collection and collaboration is really special and I can’t wait to show my love for the city of New York on the court.”
The adidas Tennis by Pharrell Williams incline collection will be available on August 21 online at adidas.com/tennis. It will launch globally on August 31. No pricing information has been announced.
