Nike is now the NBA’s official apparel partner. The companies have just announced a new piece of technology that will enhance the fan experience, not only with new fan apparel such as jerseys, shirts, and other garments, but with a new app that gives fans access to exclusive opportunities in real time.
Fans can connect to the jersey and unlock exclusive experiences, customization options, and special product through their smartphone, the new NikeConnect app. A couple steps will allow you to soon take part in the experience.
1. Purchase a Nike NBA Jersey from a retailer near you.
2. Download the NikeConnect App.
The NikeConnect App will be available for iOS11 (iPhone 7 and later) and Android devices with NFC capability (nearly all Android devices).
3. Open the NikeConnect App on your smartphone.
4. Tap your smartphone to the NikeConnect logo on your Nike NBA Jersey.
Tapping your phone to the NikeConnect logo will activate the chip under the NikeConnect logo on your jersey and will launch the experience.
5. Sign in or register for a Nike+ account.
Once signed in, you will be able to tap in for team and player updates such as pre-game arrival footage, stats, and player highlights. Tapping in on game day gives you access to exclusive game day offers.
6. The cental “team” tab of the app will open.
In the central “team” page, the jersey you just tapped in with will appear alongside a status bar with in-game updates, countdown to tip off, or post game scores. Additional media elements will be available such as images, GIFs, and recap videos related to the player whose jersey you tapped in with and the team they play for.
7. The “Offers” tab (available on the left side of the screen)
In the “Offers” tab, you can see what offers are available on game days. Potential offers include licensed product, NBA 2K18 Boosts, exclusive Spotify playlists from the athletes, and other experiences that will be announced in the future.
8. The “Jersey” tab will be on the right side of the screen.
This tab will show a history of offers that are associated with a respective jersey.
The NikeConnect app will be available for download globally on the platforms listed above. Nike NBA jerseys will become available in retailers beginning September 29. Pricing has yet to be announced.
