The Nike Pro Hijab Releases Globally Today

In an effort to cater to athletes of the world, Nike has managed to release its Pro Hijab ahead of schedule while still taking a “better late than never” approach.

Back in March, we reported on the unveiling of the Nike Pro Hijab during International Women’s History Month. Originally expected to release in Spring of 2018, we now know the Pro Hijab is available starting today.

The sport-ready religious covering was designed to eliminate any hindrances a traditional hijab may have on performance and was designed based on the feedback of various female athletes across multiple sports.

Champion fencer Ibtihaj Muhammad detailed how the traditional hijab obstructed her hearing to Nike, stating she often could not hear referees, which resulted in being carded for false starts.

Nike’s design process resulted in a hijab made from a polyester based Nike Pro cool mesh with an elongated neck hole made from fluff thread to minimize irritation and chances of untucking. The stretchy fabric is also able to eliminate a loose fit and still adapt to more than one head size.

“(My) old hijab was too loose and didn’t stretch or breathe” stated German boxer Zeina Nassar. “I’m not distracted anymore because it sits better and is well adapted for sport.”

“The Nike Pro Hijab is lightweight, breathable and sturdy”, Emirati figure skater Zahra Lari in a statement to Nike, “It’s everything I need”.

The Nike Pro Hijab is available December 1 at Nike in black and obsidian and will be available in white and vast grey January 2018. No price has been announced.
